Coco Chanel had it right when she said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.” There’s so very much noise to contend with nowadays that it’s easy to believe that more is best, that the clutter is necessary adornment. But here’s the truth of it, friends: you can never go wrong with just a little less fuss.
So, when this gorgeously understated inspiration slid across our desks, we couldn’t help but share it with the rest of our lovely family — an intimate love affair with simple pleasures which defines beauty itself!
A word from photographer Nikki Santerre:
“In a world where our attention is constantly being vied for, it was our goal to use this inspiration shoot to create a space where we highlighted that exquisite beauty is often best displayed using understatement. Our focus was on a few simple storytelling elements (terra-cotta, clean and modern paper, artisanal cuisine, and seasonal wine pairing), our bride/model, Kathy, and using the least fussy space at Upper Shirley Vineyard, this well-illuminated white wall. We wanted to demonstrate the warmth that comes from the meal on your wedding day, in creating a dining experience, instead of just on table-scape alone. Both our planner, Lauren, and our paper designer, Jordan, were feeling inspired by the color and texture of terra cotta after recent trips to Italy. The chef at Upper Shirley did a beautiful job presenting cornflower dusted quail and waffles, drizzled in honey, paired with their award winning Viognier. With the modern shape of Kathy’s Carol Hannah gown, the viewer is truly pulled in to her eyes in these images. Anna Breeding’s artistry also has us swooning over the simple low-bun and nude lip.”
