When you have the wandering loveliness of Nashville at your feet, it’s hard not to find the perfect spot to fit your vision! When photographer Sarah Neely was asked to celebrate the engagement of Misti & Gene, they asked for a spot with clean white modernity and a spot of charm. Enter a classic corner of the 12 South neighborhood and one ridiculously sweet couple!
A word from Sarah Neely of Sarah Nichole Photography:
“Misti and Gene were a joy to photograph! These two are seriously genuine and kind people!
Misti expressed from the very beginning of booking with us that she wanted a very modern, clean, and white space for their engagement session, which we immediately loved! From the moment we discussed their engagement session, they fully trusted us with finding their modern location! We also picked up a delicate arrangement of flowers from the local, Amelia’s Flower Truck which is almost always parked in the 12th South Neighborhood and offers beautiful, simple floral arrangements that you design yourself!
They showed up to the session with Misti’s sister (also bridesmaid) to help celebrate their love and ease the natural tension that can come with taking professional photos for the first time! Given that Misti and Gene wanted an urban and clean looking session, we took them to Nashville’s 12th South Neighborhood and walked around the modern shops and streets! 12 South is a very popular neighborhood that is stylish, trendy, and certainly hip — one of our personal favorites in Nashville! One of our favorite memories of the day was watching Misti and Gene enjoy each other and laugh while posing for the photos! They were natural and willing to go along with our vision which made the session flow very smoothly! Their love was so sweet and inspiring, and we were just honored to capture it! We look forward to photographing them again and getting to know them more over the years!”
Love notes from the couple, Misti & Gene:
How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?
Misti: “Gene and I met at the gym! He approached me a few times, we got to know each other, then went on our first date. Right from the beginning this guy had quite the personality! Super funny, super athletic, kind, and very charming!”
Gene: “First impression of Misti was that she was stunningly gorgeous and very kind — her kind and caring heart is probably the most attractive trait she has!”
Describe a hurdle you had to overcome during your wedding planning.
“Our biggest hurdle during the wedding planning process was honestly picking a date! Luckily, we finally picked the most perfect day and had the most perfect night celebrating with friends and family.”
Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day?
Misti: “Gene Hans’ father is Danish and actually passed away about a year and a half ago. So, he decided to wear a lapel pen representing the American and Danish flag on his suit jacket. It was a very sweet, but stylish accent to his outfit.”
