Karyn and Rick welcomed a new year—and a new chapter of life—with a celebration brimming with elegance and sentiment. Their New Year’s Eve wedding embraced old-world glamour in every detail, from the candlelit ceremony at St. Paul Catholic Church to the opulent reception at The Broadmoor.
The couple wove family legacy and personal touches throughout the day: Karyn wore her mother’s wedding dress from 44 years ago, and both moms took part in the ceremony alongside a cousin who officiated. Lush red florals, golden glow, and timeless styling brought warmth and romance to the winter night, while a button-back halter gown and opera-length gloves gave Karyn’s bridal look a sophisticated, vintage feel. It was a day filled with joy, reverence, and the sparkle of new beginnings.

“The ceremony was the most solemn part of the day, and made us feel the depth of the commitment we were making to each other.”

How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?
We met through mutual friends. Our first date was almost 4 hours of great conversation.
Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day?
We incorporated our family in many ways! I wore my mom’s wedding dress that she wore 44 years ago! Our siblings gave the reception speeches, and our moms each had a speaking part in our Catholic ceremony while the bride’s cousin wed them!

What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you?
The ceremony. This was the most solemn part of the day, and made us feel the depth of the commitment we were making to each other.
What is your favorite thing about each other?
Rick loves Karyn’s compassion and heart for animals and children. Karyn loves how Rick challenges her and how fiercely loyal he is to those closest to him.

What was your favorite part about planning your wedding?
Choosing the decor and flowers! It was such a fun learning experience, and seeing it come to life for the first time after months of planning was equally (or even more, probably) fun.
If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?
To forgive and give one another room to grow. Your relationship with each other is unlike with anyone else, and it’s important to continually nurture it. It takes intention to create a happy life together!
