Church Wedding with a Rooftop Scene

Elizabeth and Casey’s day was absolutely beautiful, they chose to have a church wedding with a rooftop scene for the reception and it was perfect. The overall design was crisp and classic with a pops of color to add to the visual interest, the rooftop added the opportunity to get magnificent sunset portraits and they ended the night with a classic car!

Elizabeth and Casey met in 2017 while they were both still in school — Casey at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, Elizabeth at The University of GA. After graduation, they made their home in beautiful Greenville, SC, which is where their elegant church wedding and stunning rooftop reception were held! Alexandra Madison Weddings created a clean, yet sophisticated aesthetic for Elizabeth and Casey’s wedding by including plenty of greenery, classic blues, and creamy whites in her design. The floral arrangements of cascading orchids almost stole the show, but of course, nothing could distract from Elizabeth’s radiance in her simple fitted gown with one massive bow and train on the shoulder. This wedding took place just a few days before Hurricane Ian made landfall, and the outer bands gave us some of the prettiest sunsets I’ve ever seen! -Melissa Brewer

How did you meet? We met through mutual friends at a party. We realized after the fact that they had set us up!

What is your proposal story? Casey brought me to this adorable bed and breakfast near Greenville called the Red Horse Inn. It was scenic with a beautiful sunset and mountains in the background. He popped the question on the balcony of our room and a lot of champagne followed. He had our friends and family come to Greenville the next night to celebrate. I loved how we had a special night to ourselves but could share the rest of the weekend with friends and family.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding. My vision was crisp, clean, and classic with a pop of color. I wanted a lot of whites, greens, and neutrals with a blue accent.

Tell us about your attire choices. It was hard to narrow down one dress so I chose to do an outfit change after our cake cutting. I changed into a Rebecca Vallance white mini dress with an open back and long bow for a fun end of night look.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip? Our first booked vendors after our wedding planner and venue were photographer, band and florist. We splurged on Band + food/drinks. Getting married in a church was important to us because of our upbringings so we did pre-marital counseling with our officiant which was a good experience. We chose to skip out on the koozies because we decided we have way too many from weddings over the years and it was an easy area to save money.

What were your favorite parts of the day? My favorite parts were getting ready with my gals, mom and gma, my first look with my husband and dad as well as dancing the night away (as cliche as that sounds). We had a great band and maybe it was just us, but we felt like everyone was having a blast on the dance floor which was such a memorable experience.

What did you do for favors? We had monogrammed cookies at the end of the night. The monogram was the same on our welcome bags and our cake.

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details. My mom created all of our welcome bags for the guests which were so cute and special. She thought of all the details and used Etsy to create custom itineraries, maps of GVL and monogrammed bag tags.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions? We used a lot of special family jewelry.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now? It flys by so enjoy every minute of it and don’t sweat the little things – that’s what your MOH and wedding planner are there for!
