Allie & Andrew’s Wedding

Allie & Andrew had a clean and classic themed wedding that showcased their love for each other with minimal distractions. Surrounded by friends and family, their day was an intimate affair surrounded by their closest people – as wedding photographers themselves, they wanted something a little different than the status quo. So they had a dinner party / wedding combo with NEEDTOBREATHE (their favorite band and interestingly enough, also one of this editor’s faves!) playing in the background. They shared some of their story with us below …

Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day?

We had one very special family member who wasn’t in attendance at our wedding – Andrew’s mom. She passed almost 11 years ago and is greatly missed. We wanted to honor her in a special way at our wedding. When I found out that she loved yellow roses, I knew we had to incorporate those somehow. Andrew walked a bouquet of yellow roses out before our ceremony to a special seat reserved for his mom. While she wasn’t physically with us, we were able to honor her in a way that was special for Andrew.

What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you?

The one thing that was most important to us when it came to our wedding was that we wanted to invite the Holy Spirit into every moment. We wanted His presence above all else and for everyone who was in attendance to recognize that we are there, entering into such a holy covenant, because of Jesus. We walked down the aisle to worship music, took communion together, and had our mentors pray over us during our ceremony. Our wedding day was beautiful because we knew the Holy Spirit was present.

If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?

Our biggest piece of advice for other couples who are planning a wedding would be to do what feels like YOU, not what society says you should do. We’re also wedding photographers who have been to countless weddings, while we love capturing our client’s special days, we wanted to do something a little unique. We found a restaurant in town that allowed us to have an outdoor ceremony and an indoor dinner. We booked out the restaurant, invited only 40 of our closest people, didn’t have a big dance party, and instead had an intimate dinner party with great food and NEEDTOBREATHE playing in the background. It wasn’t your “typical” wedding day, but it was “us” and it was oh so dreamy!

What is the most honest thing you can say about love?

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 talks about how love is patient and kind. I don’t think I ever understood those words until I met Andrew. Andrew is patient and Andrew is kind. He is these things because he knows Jesus. He is patient because his Father is patient. He is kind because his Father is kind. I think it’s so easy for us to get lost in wanting love so badly that we easily settle, we don’t wait for somebody who is patient or kind. But that isn’t love. Love bears all things, believes all things, endures all things, and never fails.
