There’s something deeply tender about capturing the anticipation of parenthood in the place you call home. For Livi and Dan, both incredibly talented wedding photographers, the weeks leading up to the arrival of their first child were filled with stillness, presence, and a shift toward savoring quiet, everyday moments.
Photographed by their dear friend Madison McMahon, this at-home session was captured entirely on black and white film — a medium that perfectly matched the emotion of the day. Film’s timeless grain and nostalgic pull highlight the beauty of the in-between moments: morning coffee, soft light pouring through windows, and even the joy of including their pup, Winston.
What makes these portraits so meaningful is not just the artistry, but the authenticity of two people embracing one of life’s most transformative seasons. Livi and Dan’s story is one of love, patience, and stepping into a new chapter with grace.

“Pregnancy humbles you — there were moments I realized I couldn’t do it all, and that letting go of control wasn’t weakness, but an act of trust.” – Livi

What’s your favorite family pastime together?
We’re a big movie-watching family — it’s something we truly look forward to several nights a week. On average, we watch 5–6 new movies weekly, and it’s become a fun and meaningful routine. Dan studied film in school, so his passion runs deep, and over time it’s become something we’ve bonded over. We don’t just watch movies — we dissect the storytelling, cinematography, performances, and even the score. It’s been such a beautiful way to connect, unwind, and learn from each other.
Any lessons you learned as a family through the last year?
As two business owners (and wedding photographers), we’ve always been very independent with a “do it yourself” mentality. But this year — especially during pregnancy — I learned the importance of asking for help and leaning on each other. Pregnancy humbles you, and there were moments I realized I couldn’t do it all. Letting go of control wasn’t weakness but an act of trust. Dan stepped in without hesitation, supporting me in every way, reminding me daily that we’re in this together. Those lessons in partnership, patience, and support will continue to shape the kind of parents we want to be.

What does family mean to you?
To us, family means trust, sacrifice, and presence. It’s about showing up for each other in the easy and the hard moments, being honest about needs and limits, and prioritizing connection over convenience. As we prepare to become parents, that meaning has deepened — family is slowing down, soaking in the moments, and choosing love over perfection.
What have you recently done to put family as a major focus in your life?
I intentionally took a step back from my business, deciding to take a year off from wedding photography for the first time in 13 years. The wedding industry is demanding, and I knew I wanted to be fully present for this new chapter. My mom’s presence in my early years shaped me deeply, and I want to offer the same grounding for my daughter. While challenging at times, stepping back has given me the space to prepare, connect, and enter motherhood with intention.

If you had one piece of advice for other families, what would it be?
Trust each other deeply and ask for support when life feels heavy. True partnership grows in moments of vulnerability. Also, don’t wait for the “perfect time” to start a family — sometimes the right time is simply when your heart is ready. Prepare as best as you can, then surrender to the unknown. And above all, remember time moves quickly — protect the moments that matter most, because those are the memories that will stay with you.
