Life is made sweetest by those with whom we surround ourselves. It rings true with the company you keep, and certainly with the one you choose as your one and only forever! How incredibly blessed are we, then, to showcase both in today’s feature?!
Beth, John, and The Ganeys formed a beautiful bond as photographers, fellow creatives, and friends. So, it was only natural to celebrate marital milestones in each other’s company — and perhaps get a lovely little anniversary session in while they were at it!
A word from photographers, The Ganeys:
“Beth and John are the sweetest! They are incredible photographers based out of Michigan and I’m in awe of the beauty they capture throughout the year. Lucky for me, I’ve had the opportunity to get to know these two over the past three years. We initially stumbled across each other via instagram (thanks, technology!) and we get together every year when they come down to Florida for their Disney adventures. This year, they asked me to snap some anniversary photos for them. It is always so fun to photograph fellow creatives!
We met up in Longboat Key for their session – the weather was perfect and the light was glorious! Beth and John were incredibly natural in front of the camera – they laughed their way through the whole session. They know that I’m a sucker for greenery and parks, so they let me take some in a local park before we headed to the beach where they got engaged a few years ago.
After the session, these two treated me to some ice cream at their favorite local spot. We swapped photography stories and picked each other’s brains about everything from workflow to off camera flash. It is always so fun to connect with other photographers!”
Love notes from the couple, Beth & John:
How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?
Beth: “We met while in undergrad at the University of Michigan! We were in the same friend circle, and kept seeing each other! I thought John was a huge nerd, and he thought the same for me — so of course we immediately hit it off. We fell in love over our mutual love for Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, and also photography!”
Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship.
Beth: “We dated for around 6 months before John moved to the other side of the country for a new job! We endured a long distance relationship for a year and a half (Michigan and Seattle), and it was by far the hardest hurdle for us. There were many late nights and sad tears, but we made it through, and it made us stronger, and the trust we built from it was indescribable. We wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
What is your favorite thing about each other?
Beth: “My favorite thing about John is his laugh!! Also, he has the most fun, adventurous, & kind spirit, and works so hard for us!”
John: “My favorite thing about Bethany is her eye for detail, her pursuit of beauty, and the way she shows love to those around her!”
What is the most honest thing you can say about love?
“Love in a relationship is not enough. The most important thing in a relationship is to have and show a deep respect for each other. When you respect, you are positively affirming them, listening to them, and appreciating them. By doing this, you will be able to love and be loved.”
