It’s always so sweet at vow renewals and sometimes weddings when people’s kids are participating, but how about a wedding where one of the kids is yet to be born, and the wedding includes a gender reveal cake? Maria João and Tiago were married in Portugal at this little soiree near the sea, and we have to say the images just really show the emotion and excitement that they and their guests felt during this fun-filled day. Check out their story …
from the photographer, Alice Vicente – ” In Portugal, we have an expression that says “In April a thousand showers”, which means that it’s the rainiest month of the year. Still, Maria João and Tiago decided to get married on the 6th of April. The week before it rained every single day and when we were driving to the venue the rain was intermittent. Everyone was incredibly relaxed throughout the day. Maria João, with her 5-month-old baby in her belly (whose gender would be revealed to the guests later at night), was beautifully serene during our boudoir session, which happened before everyone arrived. The entire day all we could feel was relaxation and happiness. The rain ended up peaking only a little bit during the exterior civil ceremony, but Rita from Destination Weddings in Portugal got everything covered and got everyone a white umbrella so that the ceremony could carry on without a problem. Everyone could tell just how happy and in love Maria João and Tiago are. It was contagious to the point where you couldn’t avoid smiling. The dinner tables were decorated with a sea-themed decor, as the venue is located near some of the most beautiful beaches in Lisbon, and some of their engagement photos were framed and put on top of the tables to add a personal touch. After dinner, it was time for the big moment everyone was waiting for (besides the ceremony, of course!). The cake that was going to reveal to everyone the gender of the baby! You could feel the adrenaline and curiosity going on in the room. As Tiago started to cut the cake you could see every guest trying to peak to see if they could be the first ones to know. No one wanted to miss a thing! As soon as the blue-colored dough showed, everyone celebrated! It’s a boy! Some cried of happiness and some celebrated with hugs. It was truly a special moment! The couple told me they wanted something simple, yet beautiful and I would say they nailed it!”
