Anniversary sessions capture our hearts each time—two souls living the tousled magic that is marriage, and loving all the way through it. What is more beautiful than a love that is placed on a stunning mountain vista, and yet only has eyes for each other?
A word from Sierra Inn of Sierra Ashleigh Photography:
“This was a special autumn inspired anniversary shoot located in the hills of beautiful Ashland, Oregon. The couple, who are the sweetest people you will ever meet, are high school sweethearts who unfortunately didn’t receive the amazing, timeless wedding photos they were hoping for at their own wedding seven years ago. So we decided to have a redo if you will. Sadie and Alex dressed in wedding day attire and I was honored and blessed to capture their special, eternal love.
I’m so passionate about love and capturing love on film—so being able to give Alex & Sadie the timeless ‘wedding’ images they deserved was extremely rewarding and truly made my heart happy. These two have a special kind of love. The love everyone hopes and dreams of. You can see the way they look at each other…it’s pure magic! The landscape, wedding day attire and autumn florals made for a beautiful anniversary session.”
Love notes from the couple, Alex & Sadie:
How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?
Sadie: “Alex and I met when we were in 6th grade at our church. We always had major crushes on each other all the way through junior high and high school. We were able to grow up together a little bit through our church. It wasn’t until our senior year we officially started dating. To say it was love at first sight is an understatement.”
Alex: “My first impression of Sadie was, ‘who is everyone in the room staring at!’ Then when I looked to see Sadie, my next thought was, ‘I want to know every single thing about this girl!!!’ She didn’t even know I existed…”
Sadie: “Once we started dating there was no looking back! We spent a almost two years in Bend, Oregon while we went to school and it was filled with love notes on cars, surprising each other after class and adventuring around together completely undoubtedly in love! On a brisk fall evening in the bell tower of a local restaurant Alex got down on one knee and asked me to make him the happiest man alive and marry him. It was a finally and a thousand times yes moment! We wed the June following the engagement and couldn’t have been more happier to finally be his WIFE. Almost 7 years later and we are even more in love. I couldn’t be prouder to be his wife and raise our kids together. Three kiddos and so many adventures together with so many more to dream about. We love to chase romance and adventure and always try to get creative with date nights and getaways!
We feel like we’ve found that great love. Even through the hard times the passion pulls through and ignites that fire. We feel so lucky and blessed to have each other!”
Tell us a funny story relating to your relationship!
Sadie: “One summer evening we were driving home for a family BBQ (perfect time to pop the question in my opinion) and on the drive home we stopped by a beautiful lake at sunset. I had it stuck in my head how picturesque it was and how romantic. We walked out onto the dock and Alex grabs my hands and gets down on one knee, my heart started racing and I began looking around for my family or someone anyone. When I looked back down at him he was fixing his shoe lace. I about pushed him into the water (I should have) it’s a funny story…now. Just goes to show the kind of humor that he brings into our marriage!”
Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning.
“A huge hurdle for us was timing and patience. We wanted so desperately to be married but we both knew finishing school and getting secure jobs would benefit us in the long run. Alex went through paramedic school while we were engaged. He was very busy and we had opposite schedules and to be honest hardly saw each other. He wasn’t able to lend any input for the wedding. In the end it was perfect just the way it was supposed to be and all he wanted was me, he didn’t need a fancy wedding.”
What is your favorite thing about each other?
Sadie: “I love how hard working, fun and loving Alex is. I couldn’t just pick one. He works harder than anyone I know and would lend a helping hand in a heartbeat to anyone who may need one.”
Alex: “I love the simple way Sadie brings adventure into my life. I would describe Sadie as empathetic and faithful, a combination that is both fiercely powerful and radiantly attractive.”
What is the best thing you’ve learned from one another?
Sadie: “I’ve learned so much from Alex but the best is how to truly genuinely love people. He has the biggest servant’s heart and so kind towards lending a helping hand. It really has opened my eyes to serving others before myself. Especially as a mom.”
Alex: “Where do I start.. Sadie has inspired me to be introspective, and consider how to be myself, while being a husband and a father. With her playful open ended questions, Sadie is constantly starting conversations that cause me to consider ‘Us,’ our love and the world we are shaping for our children. I have learned many things about many topics because of Sadie, but they all start with Sadie challenging me to check in with where my head and heart are at.”
What is the most important thing in your marriage?
Sadie: “Loyalty. I know without a doubt if I say I need him for something he will drop whatever he is doing to be there and I would do the same for him. I know he will stand by my side through all my days loving and supporting me to his full ability, and I the same for him.”
If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?
“Never go to bed upset at one another. We have stuck to this rule for almost 7 years now. Some nights go late into the early morning hours just to finish an argument or misunderstanding but we always talk it through, no walls are able to go up. We hear each other out, It’s not always perfect but if you take that time to really open up to one another without distraction you will feel loved and supported.”
What is the most honest thing you can say about love?
“It’s powerful, real, genuine and emotional. It sneaks into you and captures your soul revealing every bit of you. I believe in a GREAT LOVE, The ability to love someone with every fiber of your being and go to the ends of the earth with them chasing adventure, love and romance every moment you can.”
