Loreina In Motherhood

Loreina’s story is such a wonderful thing to witness. Facing a challenge that caused her not to be able to carry, she didn’t give up and with that resilience a beautiful healthy baby girl was born. These images are so touching and a beautiful capture of moments that were longed for!

What’s your favorite family pastime together? Our family loves getting out in nature! We have a small cabin on 30 acres and exploring the property is probably our favorite thing to do! We also love walking/biking new trails, parks, lakes! White Rock Lake is one of our favorite spots to get some fresh air and exercise!

I met Loreina at an amazing styled shoot in Big Bend National Park a little over a year ago – she had just been married and I followed her journey to motherhood on Instagram. Her battle with cancer left her unable to bear children on her own, but they found a wonderful woman that served as a surrogate to help make their dreams of having a child of their come true! Loreina’s zest for life, sweet and humble personality, led me to ask if she would model for me with her sweet babe. I wanted to be able to document the love that she had, and the close connection she has with this miracle baby of hers. Loreina is very feminine and fashionable – I had a vision of tulle and lace, but wanted to keep it natural and organic with baby Juliette to avoid feeling stuffy, and to show off those beautiful baby rolls. -Kate Marie Portraiture

Any lessons you learned as a family through the last year? Last year Juliette was born via surrogate. Because I had cancer when I was 21, I couldn’t carry. My wonderful husband and I jumped through what seemed like endless hurdles to have our baby girl in our arms. We were able to create healthy embryos, found an amazing surrogate and we are grateful everyday for our healthy girl! The greatest lesson through it all is to never give up. I’m so glad we never gave up on our dream to expand our family!

Tell us a fun or silly story that happened to your family recently! Our girl makes us laugh every day but recently she’s been growling at everyone she meets!

What does family mean to you? Unconditional love, accepting differences, helping each other evolve into being better beings.

What are the best things you’ve learned from each other? It’s ok to make mistakes. Also, every day is a blessing so don’t take any days for granted.

If you had one piece of advice for other families, what would it be? Be accepting of differences.

What have you recently done to put family as a major focus in your life? Family has always been a major focus in my life. Dinners are important for our family. We all eat a healthy meal together and discus our day.
