Lauren & Colin’s 35mm Wedding

Authentically original. This couple opted to have their wedding captured on 35mm film and it’s beautiful in all it’s candid moments and beautiful film grain! The emotion really shines through and celebrates the PEOPLE that are part of this lovely day. Read on …

from the photographer: “I shoot solely 35mm film and I am obsessed with the raw and tangible vibe that film brings to photography- ESPECIALLY weddings. When Lauren & Colin reached out to me about capturing their black-tie classic wedding, I knew film was the perfect fit. The two of them have been together for quite some time and their love is so incredibly palpable. Their wedding was the perfect mix of them- classy and fun! (I mean her veil- c’mon.) It was an absolutely dreamy day down to every little detail, and it was an absolute joy to capture it all on the magic of film.”

How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?

We both grew up in Maryland and had lots of mutual friends, as well as played sports at neighboring state universities (Towson University and University of Maryland). We officially met Labor Day Weekend in Ocean City, Maryland in 2018. We instantly connected. Colin thought Lauren was fun and outgoing, beautiful, and had a million dollar smile. In other words, he thought she was “Picture Perfect”. While Lauren thought Colin was so handsome, goofy, and had the most infectious personality. She knew he would one day be “the one”.

Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning.

Thanks to our amazing vendor team, our wedding day went as amazing and seamless as we could have ever hoped for. There isn’t a single thing either one of us would change from our amazing day celebrating our love. However, during planning, we quickly learned “don’t sweat the small stuff”. The planning process can be overwhelming at times, and during those overwhelming moments is when it was most important that we remembered we were on the same team and both of our opinions mattered. Remember that you both have never planned a wedding before, and the experience is new for both of you. Always respect your partner’s opinions and considerations while planning. The are your lifelong teammate!

Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day?

We did a few very special things to incorporate our family into our wedding day. We honored Lauren’s parents and their 34 years of marriage by surprising them with the Bride’s Entry song being a version of the same song as their first dance. Walking down the aisle to this song with her dad was a very special part of her day. Lauren was gifted a bridal bouquet locket with her late grandparent’s picture in it, while Colin was gifted his late grandfather’s cufflinks. We also had “reserved ceremony seats” for family members who could not physically be there to share our day with us.

Lauren also received a very special gift from her mother to wear on the morning of the wedding. Her mother created Lauren’s “getting-ready robe” using pieces of her own wedding gown from 34 years ago.

What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you?

Our entire wedding day was so special from beginning to end. We made sure we were both 100% present from the second we woke up until we closed our eyes that night. Writing and saying our own vows during our ceremony was an incredibly special moment for both of us. It gave us the opportunity to speak about how we felt in the past, how we feel presently, and our plans for our love in the future out loud to each other, as well as in front of all of the people closest to us that helped us get to where we are as people and as a couple today.

Having a private moment together before our reception to view the space and all of the fine details we planned was so special. Our DJ played our first dance song before anyone else was in the room with us and Colin and I got to practice the “fun part” of our first dance together in our space and it was such a fun and emotional experience. Small moments together that we will never forget and forever cherish.

If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?

Our advice to other couples is to love deeply, protect fiercely, and enjoy all of the little things. Never go to sleep in an argument or without an “I love you” and your lucky kisses. Always prioritize each other and your relationship. And on your wedding day, take in every single moment together. Stop and look around at the love and support that surrounds you, and never take it for granted. Fall in love with each other all over again, every single day, for the rest of your lives.
