Emily & Austin’s Wedding

Emily & Austin’s wedding was a beautiful summer celebration at a private estate in Tarzana, California. Timeless details that were paired flawlessly with a sophisticated color palette, alongside glowing evening light, the atmosphere was a feeling of romance and enduring love!

Emily & Austin’s private backyard summer wedding was nothing short of timeless and elegant. From their fully custom wedding design at the Bride’s family home to each small detail, everything was so authentic to their love story, truly focused on the celebration with their closest family and friends. Personal touches like their private vow reading during their first look, their homemade chuppah, and the Bride’s custom bridal gown made their wedding so special. -Samantha Kin of To Be Loved Events

How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another? We met our first month of college – our dorm rooms were one floor apart and Austin’s roommate was Emily’s dance partner. Austin thought Emily was beautiful and smart – he immediately suggested his roommate try to get with Emily 😉 Emily thought Austin was…nice.

Tell us a funny story relating to your wedding day or relationship! We were friends for a year before we started dating and Emily was always ADAMANT that the two of them would never date. When our sophomore year of college started and Emily moved into a new apartment with new roommates, she immediately told them she had a great guy for one of them! Emily always says she knew Austin was a catch, just wasn’t the guy for her. Welp…we see how that worked out!

Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning. Falling in love at a young age brings its challenges. We moved cross country twice, applied to countless jobs, and fought, sometimes hard. But 10 years later we really are best friends, and those challenges were the proof that our relationship is built to last.

Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day? During the ceremony, our families stood with us under the chuppah that Emily’s brother built. And our reception was definitely a fusion of our backgrounds with music ranging from country (Austin’s family favorite) to Russian tunes (Emily’s family’s preference). We also incorporated our family with Austin’s wedding band, which is made of jewelry fused from the gold of Emily’s late grandmother.

What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you? The whole reason we had a wedding was to gather everyone we love in one place at the same time. We tried to maximize our time with all our friends who traveled from all over the country by getting a huge air bnb for us to all stay in for three days, and spent as much time with them day of and at the wedding itself. It’s important to remember what the day is really about, and give yourself time to enjoy each other and your guests.

What is the best thing you’ve learned from one another? Emily: Austin has really taught me to be kinder. I’ve learned to be more patient and that everyone brings something to the table.

Austin: Emily has taught me that life is your oyster.

What is your favorite thing about each other? Emily: My favorite thing about Austin is his mind. He’s intellectually brilliant and also incredibly thoughtful and compassionate.

Austin: Emily’s combinations of EQ and IQ.

(Independently came up with the same answer, Austin obviously in fewer words :))

If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be? Let each other be their own person. Give each other space to explore, grow and pursue their dreams. Find your own hobbies, but at the end of the day always make sure to share all the things you’ve learned with the other person.

What is the most honest thing you can say about love? Love takes work. But when you give it time and patience, it’s an unparalleled feeling. Love is when you feel each other’s happiness and sadness as if it’s your own. And love is when you feel so supported that you have the courage to pursue your wildest dreams.
