So, on so fine a Wednesday, we thought we’d introduce you to this captivating studio’s loveliness and its creator!

From Maggie Wu:

Where did Maggie Wu Studio gets its start, and how has it grown into what it is today?

“I have always made jewelry & headpieces for fun. It was nothing more than a hobby until my own wedding came around. I could not find headpieces I wanted for myself and my bridesmaids — pieces that were romantic and perfect for weddings, yet lightweight and versatile enough to be worn beyond the wedding day. I created my own pieces and Maggie Wu Studio was born. Since I just launched the brand at the end of 2016, it is still relatively new, but it would not have been possible without the heartwarming support and the collaborative spirit of all the talented vendors in the wedding industry. As I am designing and thinking of new & upcoming collections, I am planning on expanding the brand to accessories beyond just headpieces while staying true to the idea that everything is versatile enough to be worn beyond the wedding day.”

What is the heart behind your business?

“The heart behind my business is the belief that we are our best selves when we are our true selves. I am blessed to be able to do what I do now. It is something that I have always wanted to do but brushed away for a long time because it seemed unrealistic to a lot of people. I hope in some small way, my business not only inspires brides to be their true selves on their wedding day, but for women to be what they want to be every day. Despite what other people may tell you, you know what is best for you better than anyone else. I truly believe that, whether it is related to your career, your wedding, or just everyday life in general. You cannot be your best and most happy self unless you are comfortable with yourself and follow your heart. ‘There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you’ according to Maya Angelou, so I hope everyone has the chance and courage to share their story through their own craft and inspire others along the way.”

What is your favorite part about your work?

“The best part about launching Maggie Wu Studio is the opportunity to connect with so many other creative entrepreneurs. It is truly a blessing to be able to collaborate with so many talented people around the world because of my business. It is something I would not have had the chance to do when I worked at a 9-5 job. I remember sitting in my cubical scrolling through Instagram and seeing all these talented people sharing their work and just admiring them through the glass screen of my phone. Now I actually get to work with some of them!”

Where do you find your greatest source of inspiration when designing your pieces?

“My greatest source of inspiration comes from traveling. As someone who grew up in a few different places, I attribute so much of who I am today to the fact that I have seen and experienced various different cultures. Every travel experience brings new ideas and allows me to see things through a new lens. There is so much beauty to be found in every corner of the earth. For my newest collection, I was inspired by my recent travels in Asia. From the Cantonese opera performed in an ancient alleyway of Guangzhou to the tea ceremonies held at private salons hidden from the streets of Taipei, there is so much beauty in the often forgotten crafts of my heritage. I wanted to capture the beauty I witnessed into my creations in a romantic and modern way, while still creating pieces that are versatile enough various kinds of occasions.”

What is most rewarding for you as a designer?

“Seeing my pieces worn by different people from all over world. It is really fun to see how people style it in their own unique way and make it their own. I also get to travel vicariously through my pieces since they have been to some amazing locations, ranging from an incredible 11th century ruins in the countryside of England to the exotic beaches and rice fields of Bali. I always get a little jealous of my pieces when I see such pictures because I wish I can just join them on such adventures!”

What is your greatest hope you want to accomplish when designing for women and brides?

“I want women to feel comfortable in their own skin on not just their wedding day, but any given day. Weddings are a daunting task to plan and can get very expensive. Many of the purchases are one-time use only. My hope is that a woman can make one of my designs into something that she calls her own. Whether it be for a wedding day, romantic vacation, or summer picnic, I want her to wear a design that makes her feel beautiful and comfortable. There are so many expectations of how a bride or woman should look like. At the end of the day, you only need to be the happiest and best version of yourself. I design my pieces specifically so that they can be worn in a variety of ways. Just like there is no right or wrong way on how to wear headpieces, it is up to you to decide how to look on your wedding day and how to live the life you want to live.”
