Joyful Romantic Vineyard Wedding: Jarvie & Hank

Family Winery Wedding

I do so love a warm, carefree wedding—and these romantic vineyard nuptials are just that! These two lovebirds were married amongst the vines of Aurora Cellars in Lake Leelanau, MI! Shelby Ferguson of The Day’s Design brought bride Jarvie’s vision of a relaxed Tuscan family wedding to life. What resulted was a gorgeous marriage of Tuscany and Michigan to match the sweet union of Jarvie & Hank!

From planner & designer, The Day’s Design:

“Jarvie is a city girl with heartstrings tied to Northern Michigan. Hank’s heart is linked straight to Jarvie. His passion for her is evident in the small smile creeps across his lips while she speaks, the stolen glances he casts her way while she’s not looking and the strong silence that stood beside her as we eagerly planned the magic of their wedding day.

Jarvie once told me that she wanted her wedding to be just like the one at the end of “Under the Tuscan Sun.” After watching that movie, I realized I never once noticed the bride’s bouquet, what the centerpieces looked like or the color of the table linens. It was all about the mood, the hospitality, family and closeness that was portrayed. There was so much laughter and joy, it was the conclusion of a fabulous journey with even better things to come. This is also how I would describe Jarvie and Hank’s wedding day. A picturesque setting with thoughtful details and celebration in the air as all the guests around them knew that this was just the beginning of their amazing life ahead.

Our story together started a little year prior to their wedding, as we began searching for the perfect location to host their Northern Michigan celebration. It was my first tour of Aurora Cellars and right away I knew it was special. Thankfully, Jarvie and Hank recognized it too. We took a chance on a tented space that was just a sketch and a farmhouse that was still pink.

Throughout the planning process, the theme stayed the same. There was a focus on simplicity, with a clean and organic feel, a Northern Michigan vibe with a Tuscan twist, however still wanting all of their Chicago friends to feel right at home.

A slight kiss of pink accented the mainly white day, so we brought in some California roses and luscious pink peonies and displayed them as many places as possible. Jarvie found she had a hidden love for calligraphy, so Graceline was hired to address everything from her save-the-date envelopes to her custom invitations and all the signage in between.

June 18th arrived with a sun beaming bright in the sky and the smiles were contagious throughout the vineyard. The guests were greeted with refreshing lemonade and ushered through the vines to the ceremony site. Cocktails and Aurora’s divine wine waited near the farmhouse on the lawn. And dinner & dancing took place under a pristine white tent.

And the evening ended with a most glorious Leelanau sunset. I would plan every wedding on the peninsula for that reason alone.”

What is your favorite thing about each other?

Jarvie: “Hank is without a doubt the kindest person I know. His kindness is reflected in his speech and actions; he is considerate, accepting and generous. It doesn’t matter who you are or what the situation is, Hank’s kindness is ever present.”

Hank: “Jarvie is my ride or die partner. She’s extremely loyal and I know she’ll always be my biggest fan.”

What is the best thing you’ve learned from one another?

Jarvie: “Hank is an optimist by nature and has taught me that I can choose to see the bright side in any situation. Through his example, I’ve learned that finding the silver lining in tough times is the best course of action.”

Hank: “Speak your mind. Jarvie says what she’s thinking and wears her heart on her sleeve which has taught me to be more open and communicative.”

If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?

Hank: “Create your own traditions. They’re something to look forward to and will sustain you through difficult times.”

Jarvie: “A wedding is one day but a marriage is a lifetime. It’s easy to get caught up in wedding planning details and stress but try to focus on the bigger picture, building and creating a happy life with your partner.”
