There’s something to be said for a traditional, cathedral wedding. The grandeur and stateliness of it lends itself to a classic feel that stands the test of time! Rives and Christian did just that – and kept it fun and festive as well with a live band accompanying them on their walk to the reception!
from the photographer: “These two high school sweethearts got engaged seven years to the date after their first date. It made sense to get married at St. Andrew’s Cathedral since they met at that school in the 7th grade. Rives later found out Christian had called “dibs” on her in his friend group right after meeting her! One block behind was the Capital Club where they had their senior dance and where they knew early on after their engagement would be the place to celebrate their marriage.
Although they both live in Oxford, MS – Rives working at an accounting firm, and Christian in law school – it made sense to get married in Jackson because both their families were there. The invitations and paper goods were stamped with her family crest and the bride wore her grandmother’s heirloom earrings as a keepsake to her something blue. After popping champagne, the girls made their own mimosas before getting dressed and heading over to the church for portraits.
As we were walking along the Cathedral courtyard, Rives & Christian stopped by one of the stones with her grandmother’s name etched in and placed a few flowers as a sweet memorial. So much history! After their traditional ceremony, the couple came out to the Jackson All-Star Band second-lining their charming walk over to the reception.
On top of the groom’s (cheese)cake was a miniature of their sweet, fourteen-year-old cocker spaniel that I got to meet while photographing their engagement session. Another one of their intentional details was her grandmother’s heirloom knives which they used to cut the cake and her silver cups to toast.
In the words of the venue management, Rives & Christian were graciously granted exclusive access to the Capital Club rooftop “for being one of the best couples to work with.” They shared a private moment enjoying the sunset and views of downtown Jackson before heading downstairs to party on with their dear friends & family. After getting sent off with sparklers, a white Rolls Royce carried them off to their happily ever after.”
