Lindsey & Colin Estate Wedding

Lindsey and Colin’s journey from childhood friends to lifelong partners is one out of a storybook. Their connection blossomed into romance in their senior year. Fast forward to their life together in Jackson Hole, where Colin proposed to Lindsey during a sunset fishing trip on the Snake River. For their special day, they drew inspiration from the lush summer florals of Wyoming and their beautiful venue. Despite waking up to fog and a light drizzle setting a moody atmosphere in the river valley, the couple found beauty in the mist that settled over their historic estate venue. This dramatic setting only highlighted their meticulously detailed design such as touches of gold, wax seals on the seating chart to the foliage-inspired napkin rings that embraced the natural elegance theme. Tables were decorated with lush arrangements of peonies, ranunculus, sweet peas, and poppies, infusing vibrant colors and fragrant scents that enhanced the romantic ambiance!

Lindsey and Colin’s friends-to-lovers story starts young — the two attended school together from kindergarten through their senior year of high school when they finally started dating. By 2020, the two were living in Jackson Hole together. One night, Colin took Lindsey for a sunset fishing excursion on the Snake River. After several failed attempts to get a bite, Lindsey suggested that there weren’t any fish at the spot. Colin replied, “Here, try this fly.” But when Lindsey turned around to see the fly, she instead found Colin on one knee.

For their historic estate wedding, Lindsey and Colin were inspired by the abundant florals of Wyoming in the summer. As fog rolled through the river that morning, the pair knew they were in for a rainy wedding day. The overflowing ceremony florals created a vibrant contrast with the misty valley below. Lindsey wore a simple white gown with a lace top and a cathedral veil. As the clouds gave way to golden sunsets, guests headed into a clear-topped tent for the reception. Gilded details adorned the space, from wax seals on the seating chart to foliage-inspired napkin rings, while arrangements of peonies, ranunculus, sweet peas, and poppies brightened up the space. After dinner, the party headed inside for late-night dancing — featuring retro sunglasses for all the guests. -Kim Moody of The Estate at River Run

What was your favorite part about planning your wedding? I really loved having so much time with my bridesmaids, mom, and mother-in-law. It was such a relaxing, lighthearted environment where I was able to spend some true quality time with all of them. It was the best morning full of dancing, singing, and lounging in the giant bathtub. How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another? We grew up going to the same school in Farmville, VA from kindergartden until 12th grade. We were friends for so long and then started dating our senior year of high school, December 2012.

Fast forward 4 years later after we both attended JMU, Colin moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming where Lindsey joined him a year later. In 2020, we went out on a sunset fishing float on the Snake River after work, along with one of our best college friends. Half way into the float, Colin pulled the boat over into what was supposed to be a “good fishing spot”. We all got out of the boat and walked to the spot (our friend making some excuse to trail behind us). Colin handed Lindsey the fishing rod and told her to start casting. A few casts in Lindsey said “there’s no fish here” and so Colin said, “here try this fly”. When Lindsey turned around to see the fly, Colin was on one knee, ring in hand and Lindsey was shocked. Our friend was in the background snapping a video and pictures of us in front of the scenic Teton Mountains. At the end of the float, we were met by a few other friends with champagne and hugs!

Tell us a funny story relating to your wedding day or relationship! A detail that actually wasn’t planned but couldn’t have been more perfect… During the ceremony, there was a train that was passing through below the venue. It just so happened that as soon as our preacher said, “I now pronounce you married” the train whistle started blowing. Our preacher ended his speech with an “All Aboard” and then we kissed. Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning. What started out as such a dreary, rainy day turned in to the most beautiful evening. The fog rolled in over the river and the sunset was one to remember. We got so lucky with the weather. Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day? Living in Wyoming where the wildflowers are so present in the summer, we designed our flowers with that in mind. The venue also influenced us a lot. Being such a classic, beautiful property, we really wanted something that would just enhance the venue while having a timeless and minimal design. What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you?
– Spending time with all of our favorite people to start the day.
– The first look. It was such a special and calm moment where we could just be together and happy before the rest of the busy evening.
– Seeing all of our people in one place. There’s nothing quite like having all of the most important people in your lives coming together at once to celebrate you. If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?
– Hire a planner. Amy was monumental in the planning of our wedding, especially since we were miles away from the wedding location. I couldn’t imaging not having her every step of the way.
– Buy retro glasses for all of your guests to dance in at the reception. These were such a hit. We have friends to this day still tell us they swear theirs all the time! Photography / David & Tiffany Photography / http://davidandtiffanyphotography.com / @davidandtiffanyphotography
