Emma Grace & Rusty’s San Miguel de Allende Wedding at Plaza de Toros – A Candlelit Celebration Inspired by Sunset & Sacred Tradition

Some weddings feel like a place you step into—and others feel like a story you’re invited to live inside. For Emma Grace and Rusty, their celebration in San Miguel de Allende was both.

Set in a city named “World’s Best Small City” multiple times by Condé Nast, their wedding unfolded as a richly layered experience—drawing from the colors of a San Miguel sunset, the textures of old-world Mexico, and deeply personal symbolism woven into every detail.

Held inside the iconic Plaza de Toros San Miguel, the reception space transformed into something entirely transportive. Guests entered beneath metallic papel picado and a lush floral arch, stepping into an arena glowing with candlelight—hundreds of hurricane vases lining the historic structure. From a hand-painted dance floor in metallic silver and gold to sacred heart motifs and heirloom-inspired details, every element felt intentional, immersive, and deeply meaningful.

“A celebration where candlelight, color, and meaning came together to tell a story as timeless as the city itself.”

Design & Atmosphere

The design vision centered around warmth, movement, and symbolism.

Guests made their way through a stone tunnel lined with greenery and twinkle lights before emerging into a space layered with old-world lanterns, stars, and disco balls suspended overhead. The juxtaposition of sacred and celebratory created a feeling that was both reverent and electric.

At the heart of the space, a custom hand-painted dance floor by Pistas de Arte reflected the bride’s vision—metallic brushstrokes that shimmered beneath the glow of candlelight. Surrounding the arena, sacred heart imagery appeared throughout the design, tying together the emotional and visual story of the day.

A Tribute to Family & Legacy

One of the most meaningful elements was found within the arena’s grotto.

A painting of the Virgin de Guadalupe stood alongside photographs of the couple’s grandparents—an intentional tribute to loved ones present in spirit. It was a quiet, powerful moment within an otherwise vibrant celebration, grounding the day in legacy and remembrance.

The Fashion

Emma Grace’s gown by Reem Acra was a perfect reflection of the setting—featuring intricate guipiere lace and a detachable train for the церемония, paired with a cathedral-length veil embroidered with a sacred heart and the couple’s initials.

For the rehearsal dinner, she chose a statement look from Oscar de la Renta, while finishing her bridal look with classic heels from Manolo Blahnik.

Bridesmaids added to the visual story by selecting their own dresses in sunset-inspired tones—soft pinks, vibrant oranges, and warm yellows—creating a palette that felt organic and alive.

A Proposal Rooted in Romance

Rusty planned a proposal that felt straight out of a classic film.

After a casual brunch in San Antonio, he led Emma Grace to the library of Hotel Emma, where candles and rose petals lined the staircase. As Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me to the Moon played, he proposed at the top of the stairs—an intimate, cinematic beginning to their next chapter.
