Our love for anniversaries knows no bounds! What glorious celebrations of life lived and loved, choosing one another again and again with each passing day! It’s as if stardust sees fit to fall from the heavens and bless even the most mundane weekday with a partner with which to conquer it. Great trial and sweet affection, adversity and unapologetic beauty—that’s what anniversaries are made of.
From photographer Ivory+Bliss:
“This real anniversary session was as sweet as cake. Photographer, Kayley Hartman, wanted to create a gorgeous anniversary setting that included their favorite elements between her and her husband, Jason.
Inspired by the tones of blackberries and blueberries, the couples favorite fruit, mixed with her favorite dusty blue color, the couple chose to style their anniversary session with a cool color palette right in the middle of nature, echoing their wedding day, which was rustic and outdoor. Although this time, they wanted the feel to be more romantic, and airy. We loved how the floral was a perfect combination of wild+romantic, and the table setting being items that felt like you could grab them straight out of your home.
We absolutely loved the way this turned out, and the couple looked gorgeous as well!”
From the couple, Jason & Kayley:
How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?
Kayley: “Jason and my brother-in-law became friends through their workplace. One day, eight years ago, I walked in with my sister to visit her husband. Jason noticed me almost immediately and asked my brother-in-law about me right away! It took me a little longer to warm up to his one-of-a-kind charm but once I did, I was smitten!”
Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship.
Kayley: “My husband has been chasing his dreams of becoming a ‘paid’ firefighter for as long as he can remember. He’s on the volunteer department in our hometown, and over the years he’s worked up the ladder from a regular firefighter to the deputy chief. He’s put himself through so many classes and schooling over the past few years to strengthen his resume. It was definitely hard on our relationship, spending so much time away from us when we had a little one at home. I’m so happy and proud to say that his hard work and sacrifice has paid off! In May of this year he got offered his dream job as a Cedar Rapids Firefighter! The moment we had been talking about for years finally came true and all we could do was cry tears of joy!”
What is the most honest thing you can say about love?
“Love never stops growing and changing. The love that started between the two of us expanded to our first born son. And then to our second born son. We’ve been able to see and experience the love that they have for each other as brothers and it’s amazing to witness and think that all started with us. Love is the most magical and rewarding thing that exists.”
If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?
“The little things count. Make an effort every day. Be present. Don’t stop ‘dating’ each other once you get married. Always, always, always communicate. Remember that no one is guaranteed tomorrow so say what you feel and love like you truly mean it.”
