Cozy Days & Corgis: A Family Session Full of Heart and Honest Moments

There’s a quiet beauty in the in-between moments of early parenthood—watching your baby discover movement, finding joy in messy travel stories, and embracing the everyday chaos with grace and laughter. This sweet in-home session with K-Mi, Michael, and baby August is a celebration of exactly that. Captured by the talented Rita Ambrosi, their gallery is full of cozy warmth, family love, and the tiniest beginnings of new milestones.

From cuddling with their two corgis to reflecting on the life-changing decision to pause a career for motherhood, this family’s story is as rich and heartfelt as the images themselves. Their reflections on love, communication, and what family means in this new season will resonate deeply with anyone who has ever found their heart growing in ways they never expected.

What’s your favorite family pastime together?

August is at the very exciting age of 6 months. Lately we’ve been cheering him on in the nursery as he gets ready to crawl. He hasn’t gotten too far but we know it’s any day now! We also have 2 corgis, Holly and Dumpling, and we love to give them snuggles and pets.

Any lessons you learned as a family through the last year?

We were just in Japan, South Korea, and San Francisco for a month. We learned that traveling with a baby–even within the sweet spot of 5 to 6 months–is very challenging. Jet lag and low sleep do not mix well. We learned that when things go wrong, everyone is still on the same team and compassion goes a long way. We also learned baby giggles are the best medicine!

Tell us a fun or silly story that happened to your family recently!

While we were in Japan, I told Mike that I bet he was going to enjoy Tokyo DisneySea so much he would beg to come back again the next day. I figured fun rides, good food, and plenty of lactation rooms to change and nurse August. How could you beat having everything you need in one place? Well–it ended up pouring that day. Our shoes were soggy by the afternoon and we were all cold and miserable and I ended up begging to leave early. Sometimes you have to take it on the chin.

What does family mean to you?

Family is everything. It’s the foundation on which you build your life. Very early on, I knew Mike was the one because I asked if he’d be okay with my mother living with us one day and he said yes without hesitation. We are both lucky to live 15 minutes away from all our siblings and parents, and everyone knows we can count on each other in a pinch.

What have you recently done to put family as a major focus in your life?

I was pursuing a Principal role at work for a infamously demanding tech company, but after having August I decided to leave. I knew that the stress and demands of the job would seep into my home life. For me, it was definitely the right decision to be completely available as a mother. To be honest, I was very unsure. Never in a million years did I see myself pausing my career. I’m still not 100% sure now, but my time at home does feel irreplaceable. And of course to support us, Mike has taken on greater scope at his current job.

What are the best things you’ve learned from each other?

From Mike (typical Aries) I learned to assert myself and own my accomplishments. And From me, he says he’s learned to “name the feeling”.

If you had one piece of advice for other families, what would it be?

Communication is really hard. Even when everyone thinks they communicate well, most of the time they are good at problem solving. However, most of the time it was never about the problem, and was probably about the feeling.
