A stunning California coastal micro wedding with a relaxing garden feel & muted colors that came together beautifully. Another micro wedding at it finest with coastal views & a mix of florals that bring a simple space to life, I absolutely adore coastal weddings & can’t wait to see more as the warm weather rolls in!
Tell us about your wedding flowers.
“Brooke did such an amazing job pulling together some of the most beautiful bouquets and arrangements that I’ve ever seen. Fell in love with the blue thistle and white anemone that was amongst the bouquets and boutonnieres!”
“Sophia & Ryan were originally supposed to say their “I Dos” in April, just a few weeks after the whole country went on lockdown. After months of uncertainty, they decided that nothing was going to stop them from from becoming husband and wife, and chose to go ahead with a “micro wedding” at the beautiful Cape Rey Carlsbad Hilton Hotel. Regardless of all the stresses of changing plans, their “wedding 2.0″ was nothing short of perfect. With an organic garden feel and colors of dusty blue and creamy whites, they chose the perfect location for their intimate ceremony with less than 40 of their closest family and friends present. Sophia looked effortlessly stunning in a Lillian West gown with a dramatic cathedral length veil. Brooke of Wildflower Design Studio designed timeless bouquets and floral installations featuring anemones, garden roses, olive branches, and dusty miller. Cape Rey Carlsbad served as a perfect backdrop for their ceremony, and was just a quick walk away from the San Diego coast, where we captured their formal portraits. Many tears were shed during their emotional vows as the sun began to set behind them – it was a perfect reminder that love will always find a way, even in the midst of a worldwide pandemic!” – Jade Maria Photography
How did you meet?
“Ryan and I met on Bumble. We knew after that first date it was meant to bee!”
What is your proposal story?
“Ryan proposed at our favorite rooftop sushi restaurant. When I made it to the top of the stairs and saw my friends and his friends mingling at the bar, I knew this was not just any date night. Ryan immediately turned me around and went down on one knee. We were greeted with flowers and champagne from our friends and celebrated together eating sushi around a fire pit during sunset. Couldn’t get any better!”
What did you do for favors?
“Honey jars with the Bumble logo to honor how we first met!”
Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.
“I envisioned an outdoor wedding seaside in Southern California. Coastal vibes with greenery was a must. I adored the soft tones of cream white and dusty blue with gold accents and couldn’t have been happier with the way it was pulled off.”
Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.
“It was a true COVID wedding with a hand sanitizing station and custom masks with our initials and wedding date as a keepsake for all the the guests.”
Tell us about your wedding cake.
“Two tier cake: vanilla with strawberries for the bottom, and red velvet for the top!”
What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
“After the surprise of the Coronavirus interfering with our original wedding day plans in April, our postponed wedding day plans in September focused more on us just being able to get married amongst our closest family and friends safely. We had to plan a wedding around a pandemic that wouldn’t allow for such splurges as a photo booth or dance floor simply due to COVID-19 restrictions. We still had an amazing time and it didn’t hurt to save some money for our first home together!”
Tell us about your attire choices.
“Absolutely in love with my modern bohemian dress by Lillian West. Found her stuff at a cute shop in San Francisco and after trying on the first one, I knew it was the one! Loved the men’s dusty blue ties against their navy blue suites.”
What were your favorite parts of the day?
“Sneaking across to the beach before the wedding to take some photos was pretty surreal. As we were crossing the street all sorts of people were celebrating us by honking their car horns and cheering us on.”
Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
“Don’t panic when things don’t happen as you thought they would. In the end, the wedding day will feel magical and all the nitty details won’t matter so much.”
