What began as a styled shoot designed to elevate the elegance of a rustic barn wedding turned into an unforgettable chapter in Holley and Alex’s real-life love story. Set at the historic Cedarmont Farm in Tennessee, this editorial blended layered neutrals, warm earthy tones, and refined design elements—culminating in a stunning golden-hour proposal that left everyone in awe.
The shoot’s concept was rooted in the belief that rustic charm and sophistication can beautifully coexist. From the open-air ceremony setup with deconstructed florals to the inviting textures of the historic barn interior, each vignette showcased thoughtful artistry. But it was the moment Alex dropped to one knee—surprising Holley during what she thought was just another pose—that made this editorial truly timeless. (scroll to the bottom to see!)

“She thought it was just a styled shoot—until he pulled out a real ring.”

from the planner: “What began as a styled wedding shoot turned into something unforgettable and meaningful when our real-life couple—modeling as bride and groom—ended the day with a surprise proposal. As the golden hour bathed the landscape in soft light, we posed them for what she thought were a few “engagement promo shots” for the venue. When the photographer mentioned needing a ring for the photos, our “groom” pulled out a real one, got down on one knee and asked our “bride” to marry him. Her shock, joy, and emotional “yes” became the perfect close to a day already full of beauty and intention.
The vision behind this shoot was to elevate the concept of a barn wedding—showing that rustic charm and elegant design can coexist beautifully. Inspired by Pantone’s Color of the Year, Mocha Mousse, we built a palette of layered neutrals and warm earthy tones and combined them with rich textures to create a refined and organic aesthetic.
The ceremony setup made use of our open field, allowing the natural surroundings to serve as a serene backdrop. A deconstructed altar installation of branches and soft florals framed the space, with wooden benches and ground floral pieces lining the aisle—minimalist, natural, and artful.
Inside our 100-year-old barn, original oak posts, grand chandeliers, and a textured metallic plaster wall set the tone for a warm, upscale celebration. Two-story windows flooded the space with light, enhancing every carefully chosen detail—from the floral centerpieces to the layered china and artisan stationery.
This shoot was a love letter to the beauty of thoughtful design, to venues with history and heart, and to the magic of unexpected moments.”

How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?
We met at a dance class in November of 2023. Holley had already been the dance scene for a while so seeing Alex, a newbie at the time, peaked her interest. We rotated partners and eventually got paired together. Her first impression was that he was extremely goofy and eager to learn. He also happened to be best looking guy in the room (no bias). He didn’t know it at the time, but this quiet, determined, and caring dancing girl he was once intimated by would become his fiancé.
Tell us a funny story relating to your wedding day or relationship!
Holley was out on St Patrick’s day in 2023. She got a guys number who ended up being twin brothers with one of Alex’s friends. It never went anywhere but Holley’s asked how he knew the twins and they laughed about it.

Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning.
A major hurdle Holley and Alex had to overcome was the stress a weddings brings and trying to figure out what they wanted their day to look like! It was the first big stressor that touches every aspect of family, finances, and relationships. Trying to make each other happy while also being responsible. We had to figure out what was the most important part to us as a couple and not compare ourselves to others people big days. Once we agreed on an intimate ceremony we instantly felt relieved.
Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day?
Both of our immediate families plan to be at the wedding. This will be the first time their families meet. Although our families live far away from us, Holley’s mom is flying down to help her pick out the perfect dress. Holley also plans on wearing her mother’s pearl bracelet that she wore on her wedding day and having her dad walk her down the aisle.

What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you?
Our ceremony is the most important to us. Saying meaningful words and making promises that will last a lifetime trumps a flashy reception.
What is the best thing you’ve learned from one another?
Mutual respect and sacrifice. Because we’re from quite different backgrounds and walks of life, we’re constantly learning different perspectives from each other. We’ve developed, in our opinion, an unusually high level of empathy towards each other and hope that this continues to grow throughout our lives.

What is your favorite thing about each other?
Holley is a very dynamic woman. She needs to get things done yet loves living life. As a partner, she is nurturing and deeply cares about me. That kind of energy and love can’t be bought or learned – it’s who she is.
My favorite this about Alex, that’s hard to pin down. He’s my favorite thing about every day. He makes me laugh like no one else. He has a servant heart and takes care of me without asking or a second thought. He works extremely hard and balances me. I feel like I can truly be myself around him.
What was your favorite part about planning your wedding?
Our favorite part of wedding planning has been figuring out what we want our day to look like. There are so many options out there! Once we decided on the vision it was a big stress reliever. We can finally enjoy being engaged and we are looking forward to being married. Holley is also looking forward to tasting cake!

If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?
Figure out what your priorities are and sticking to them. Don’t fall for the comparison trap because your day is special no matter what it looks like.
Be patient with one another and know it’s okay to not rush into wedding planning right away. Soak up being newly engaged and this new chapter.
What is the most honest thing you can say about love?
Love is serving the other person daily. You are always learning and growing together.
