A Classic DC Wedding

A Classic DC Wedding

George & Juliana had a beautiful Washington DC wedding that had both an editorial and documentary feel as it captured so many fun moments, and beautiful vignettes with the couple! We hope it inspires you if you’re planning a city wedding!

How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?

George and I both attended college at the University of San Diego, but we did not meet until after college, when we were both living in Hampton Roads, Virginia. We both swiped right on Bumble, and quickly learned we had a lot in common and had a bunch of mutual friends from college!

Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning.

George and I both work a lot — I’m a civil litigation attorney, and George is a helicopter pilot in the US Navy, which requires him to travel for work pretty frequently. While deployment and detachments are inherently difficult on both of us, it really does force us to slow down and enjoy the time we have together when we are both home (it’s true, absence really does make the heart grow fonder).

Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day?

My engagement ring was custom made using the diamond from my paternal grandmother’s wedding ring, and then on the big day, for my something blue/something borrowed, my aunt gifted me a beautiful ring with a blue center stone that had belonged to my maternal grandmother. It was so special to have jewelry from each side of my family that day!

What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you?

Although we are tempted to say our incredible reception (live bands > everything), we both agree that our ceremony was the most important part of our wedding day. Getting married in the catholic church was important to both of us and our families, and it didn’t hurt that our church (St. Patricks in Washington, DC) is gorgeous inside.

If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?

Remember that at the end of the day, while throwing a fabulous party with friends and family is a big part of the wedding, the real purpose of your wedding is for you two to get married! We had to remind each other of that during the times when wedding planning became stressful and a bit all-consuming (especially as we got closer to the wedding).
