Trinity & Matteo’s Wedding

Every wedding has its share of heartwarming moments and sometimes challenges, and Trinity and Matteo’s wedding was no exception! The couple also faced the significant challenge of honoring their distinct religious backgrounds in their union. Trinity, coming from a Christian background, and Matteo, from a Catholic heritage, wished to respect both traditions. They achieved this beautifully by incorporating elements from both faiths into their ceremony at the Hycroft, thanks to a pastor who was a long-time family friend familiar with both denominations. His unique position allowed for a ceremony that truly reflected both Trinity and Matteo as individuals and as a couple.

How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another? We met working at Trattoria Burnaby, an Italian restaurant local to us. Trinity worked in the cafe, and Matteo was a server. We instantly clicked when introduced to each other, because we were so alike and conversation was so easy. With the first few months of knowing each other and working together, we created a really special friendship first, and once we began dating later on, it was already a special relationship that we shared, full of love, respect, & endless laughter with one another, that the rest became history from there onwards. We are now husband and wife, but will forever be best friends first. Tell us a funny story relating to your wedding day or relationship! On our grand exit from our wedding day, we had rented a rolls Royce to drive us off while our family and friends stand around to wave goodbye to us. When we had gotten inside the car, Trinity had the idea to stick both our heads out of the rooftop to wave goodbye to everyone. We both barely fit through the window opening, and Trinity was basically sitting on top of the driver. But we waved goodbye to all our family and friends as we drove out of the driveway, and everyone was cheering and wishing us well. It was so beautiful and fun, as we spontaneously decided it in the moment. But the driver said he’s been chauffeuring for over 20 years and never saw anything like it. We joked and told him, that’s because he’s never met our big Italian family before. Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning. One thing we had to blend for our wedding day was our two religion backgrounds, as Trinity is Christian and Matteo is catholic. We decided on having the ceremony at our reception venue, Hycroft. The pastor was a long time Italian friend of Trinity’s family who also grew up catholic like Matteo, but currently practiced a Christian faith. So with understanding us both so personally, he was able to a blended religion ceremony highlighting both Christian prayers and Catholic teachings. It was a beautiful ceremony that represented us so truly as a couple. Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day? We are both very rooted with family values and thought about how we could make our special day just as memorable for everyone attending our ceremony and reception. To start, our wedding was intimate, with 75 of our closest family and friends. Matteo’s 90 year old Nonna’s and Nonno were able to attend, which was the most special part of the day for us. Trinity’s wedding party was Matteo’s sister Alessia as her maid of honor, and his cousin Danielle as her bridesmaid. Matteo’s cousin Stefan was his best man and his brother Marcus was his groomsman. So it was very special to have family only for our parties to celebrate all the pre-wedding festivities together. Through out the wedding day, we made sure to spend time with all of our guests and take memorable photos with each family and friend group to be able to send them these memories of us together from our special day. With every part of the wedding planning, we thought of our family first and how we could make the day just as special for them. What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you? Our favorite part of the day was spending time together as a couple and with the guests in the garden for cocktail hour. Where we had set up lawn games, including bocce, a very important game in Matteo’s Italian family. We were able to walk around and spend time with all of our guests. The sun was out, and almost all guests had aperol spritz’s in their hands. We had live classical music playing by very talented musicians. This was the most special part of the day, as we just got wed from our ceremony and we got to celebrate it with all of our loved ones. What is the best thing you’ve learned from one another? We met each other over 8 years ago, so we’d have to say we’ve learnt so much from each other over time, as we have continuously supported each other’s growth individually and as a couple. The love we give each other through different seasons of life, helps us have new perspectives , future goals, and solutions to any ups and downs we face. Having each other to lean on through the growth is a beautiful thing. What is your favorite thing about each other? Matteo’s favorite thing about Trinity is how big her heart is and how compassionate she is to everyone in her life, as she always puts others before herself. Trinity’s favorite thing about Matteo is his youthful soul. He is so light hearted and brings so much joy to her. They have endless laughs because of his goofy personality and funny personality. Even if they’re trying to hash something out, they end up cracking up with each other. What was your favorite part about planning your wedding? We are very thankful that we took our time to plan the wedding but also spread out all our pre-wedding celebrations. As we had a 2 year engagement, nothing about our engagement felt rushed, and we were able to take the time to plan a wedding that most represented us as a couple and share our love story through thoughtful details along the way. If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be? Our biggest advice for anyone planning a wedding is to take your time, enjoy the process and time that you are engaged and any details you plan for your wedding, always put the two of you first to represent your love story most authentically true to yourselves.
