Piper & Peter’s Vermont wedding was the perfect blend of classic elegance with New England charm! Looking through the images gives you almost a nostalgic feel, like you’re looking at photos that your grandkids will one day view and say “wow grams, what a babe you were!” It is hard to describe the feeling but by looking, you just know these images will be truly timeless. The color palette was a mixture of brown, white, light pink and blue, complimenting the family’s Vermont home perfectly!
Write up from the bride: Having had the opportunity to grow up in southern Vermont it was always a dream of mine to one day be married in my hometown of Dorset. Dorset is a little village nestled in the Mettowee Valley that boasts New England charm at its finest. The natural beauty and historic charm of Vermont is celebrated throughout Dorset and when we began to plan our wedding I knew I wanted to let this special place speak for itself.
For the wedding’s aesthetic, my family and I worked hard to capture the classic elegance of the green mountain state. We wanted the natural setting and scene to showcase the classic beauty and style of summer in Southern Vermont. Our ceremony was held at The Dorset Church a small stone church built in 1907 with marble brought in from a local quarry in the area, the first marble quarry in the US. This same marble was supplied to the New York Public Library as well as many other notable public and private institutions throughout the US. The reception was held back at my family’s home just up the street from the church. We used a mix of subtle greens, whites and blues throughout the tent and property to again elevate but not compete with the natural beauty that was all around us. We chose to line vintage sap buckets that are normally used for maple surging in the spring season and fill them with an array of wildflowers which we hung across our horse fencing. This area of the reception proved popular for stunning group photos along the fencing with the green mountains as the backdrop. I had my bridesmaids wear a mix of solid and patterned blue midi-length dresses and gifted them all matching white pearl flower earrings. I loved how this look came together in the group shots; their dresses really complimented each other in a very cohesive manner.
As for the tables, we had a mix of rounds and farm tables that featured simple and clean floral arrangements that included white, light pink and blue snapdragons, thistles, roses and greenery. We chose a simple Julia Amory light blue block print tablecloth and napkin set. We complemented these with hand woven dark brown rattan chargers and napkin rings. Throughout the tent we hung various fisherman baskets and bistro lights, a family friend came over the day of the wedding with fresh cut maple saplings that they tied a round the dance floor-a nod to the state tree of Vermont.
We worked to incorporate a variety of special touches throughout the weekend. Upon arriving in Dorset, guests were given welcome boxes that included a custom needlepoint ornament featuring the Dorset Sign-a nod to my mothers needlepoint business Pip & Roo Needleworks and a token of Dorset that guests could cherish for years to come. My father sang the ave maria at the church which was a very special and sentimental aspect of our big day that we will cherish for the rest of life. The oyster boat we used during our cocktail hour adorned our a hand painted haul with our names and wedding date, a fun addition made possible by a local painter and friend. We opted to have a small wedding cake to use for our cake cutting ceremony and then provided guests with cupcakes from our local bakery along with a ice cream cart from Ben & Jerry’s!
How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another? We were set up on a blind date by Peter’s sister, Jessica! I had known her for many years through mutual friends in college. Fast forward a few years later when we were all in NYC she reached out and asked if she could share my number with Peter and the rest was history! What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you? We chose to get married in the town I grew up in Dorset, Vermont. It was really important to us that our guests had the opportunity to take in all the natural beauty and charm Vermont has to offer. We wanted the natural setting and scene to showcase the classic beauty and style of Summer in Southern Vermont. Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers;) just kidding.. on the day of our wedding Peter was stung by a bee on his ring finger! We did not do a first look so when it came time to exchange rings I thought he was just really nervous and his hand was expanding with the nerves/heat until her mouthed to me “bee sting”! If you know Peter well the timing of it all was too perfect! Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day? Family is incredibly important to both of us and it was really special to have them all play a role in our big day. We had lots of little attendees involved in our ceremony which included 3 ring bearers and 3 flower girls. Upon arriving to Dorset, guests were given welcome boxes that included a custom needlepoint ornament featuring the Dorset Sign-a nod to my mothers needlepoint business Pip & Roo Needleworks and a token of Dorset that guests could cherish for years to come. My father sang the Ave Maria at the church ceremony which was a very special and sentimental aspect of our big day that we will cherish for the rest of life. What is the best thing you’ve learned from one another? I think we are most proud of how was have learned to tackle opportunities, issues or general forks in the road together. Hearing each other out and our different POVs but with the understanding we will chart the path forward together. What was your favorite part about planning your wedding? As the bride it was really special to not only get married in my hometown but also in my backyard! I really loved all the little touches we worked into the big day from the needlepoint ornaments, the custom oyster boat adorned with our wedding date, P &P matchbooks, the vintage sap buckets typically used during maple sugaring season that we hung along the fence line to the Peter Piper pickled pepper custom cookies my Mother in Law organized! Every detail was thoughtfully selected. What is your favorite thing about each other? We are a dynamic duo when it comes to adventure and pushing each other to try new things. We share a similar travel bug and need to be on the go—the perfect partner in crime! If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be? Sounds very cliche but take it ALL in—the wedding process can feel long and stressful at times but there is no other moment or feeling when all the people who you are closest with are all in the same spot and celebrating you. It’s the most incredible feeling in the world and one we will cherish forever. What is the most honest thing you can say about love? Love is a constant state of growth and learnings.
