Melanie and Grant Anderson’s August wedding blended classic country club elegance with meaningful cultural tradition. Hosted at Olympia Fields Country Club, their day unfolded in a romantic palette of soft blues, blush pinks, and warm gold accents that created a refined yet welcoming atmosphere.
From a sacred Greek Orthodox ceremony to joyful traditions like plate smashing and spirited dancing, their celebration honored both heritage and family. Personal touches — including heirloom ceremony crowns worn by the bride’s grandparents decades earlier and a reception playlist curated by the groom — made the day feel deeply personal while bringing two families together in joyful celebration.
“Love is a choice — choosing each other every day, through the easy moments and the hard ones.”

How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?
While we grew up just 7 minutes from each other, and attended the same high school, we officially met in December of 2022. Mel’s mom, Katie, and Grant’s mom, Danette, were out at a “Ladies Night Out” in our hometown, when they started discussing their kids. They decided to set us up by nudging us individually through texts.
After a couple of instagram direct messages, we had arranged for our first date at the Berkshire Room in downtown Chicago. The conversation was easy and after a couple of bartender’s choice cocktails we were chatting and laughing the evening away.
The rest was history. Less than 2 years later, we were engaged! December 13th, today, is our engagement-iversary!
Tell us a funny story relating to your wedding day or relationship!
At our rehearsal dinner, Melanie’s mom was giving her speech. She started reminiscing on her rehearsal dinner, which she announced during her speech was located at the same exact location as our rehearsal dinner! It was pretty amazing that she kept this a secret during the wedding planning process, as she talked with Melanie on the phone every single morning on the commute to work.

Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning.
During the wedding planning process, over the course of 8 months, Grant was relocated to Grand Rapids. Michigan, while Melanie was living in Chicago. The distance created some challenges in wedding planning and attending meetings, it also strengthened their communication. Grant was determined to be present for some of the planning and proceeded to drive home to Chicago, the 6 hour round trip, every single weekend.
Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day?
Melanie’s grandparents, YiaYia and Popsie, were married in a Greek Orthodox ceremony 66 years prior to our wedding. The Greek crowns that they wore during their ceremony were the same ones that we used in our August ceremony of 2025. It was very special to incorporate the history and meaning into our day, and it was even more special to have the two of them in attendance.

What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you?
Melanie: The ceremony was very important to me, and it was extra special that Grant was baptized Greek Orthodox during our engagement. Father Luke was the priest that baptized Grant and he also officiated our ceremony, creating a strong relationship and bond during the process. Speeches were a close second! It was so special to hear our loved ones share their stories and their love!
Grant: Grant agrees that the ceremony was extra special. It felt very special to commit to each other in front of our friends, family, and God. The beauty of the church, with the arching ceiling, the brightly painted icons, and the stained glass added to the moment. Our relationship with the priest also was an important part of our wedding ceremony.
What is the best thing you’ve learned from one another?
The best thing that we learned during our engagement and wedding planning process is that putting in the effort matters. We found a way to be together every weekend, despite the distance, and this allowed for quality time that went a long way. This lesson is something that we will carry through our marriage and as we build a family — the extra effort is so important when it comes to each other, our communication, and spending time with our family.

What is your favorite thing about each other?
Grant: I love Melanie’s kind and bubbly personality. Her favorite way to spend time together is to simply be together. Sometimes our best days are days with no plans. Melanie is the warmest person in every room, and she has an infectious personality.
Melanie: I love Grant’s smile lines, and the way he makes me laugh. That is something that makes every day so fun, no matter what we are doing. I also love the way he has put in an effort to combine our lives and make time for our families. Family is a top priority for us both.
What was your favorite part about planning your wedding?
Our favorite part about planning the wedding was putting effort into the little details. We loved the food tasting and making sure that there was plenty of delicious appetizers for our guests. Melanie and her mom put so much effort each detail from the flowers, to the invitations, to the tablescapes — we wanted everything to tie together while displaying our personality.

If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?
Have fun with it! Stress can creep up with all the details of the planning. One way that we incorporated fun was to take dance lessons. We took 1–2 classes a week to work on our first dance for a couple of months leading up to the wedding day. It was a great way to break up the stress of the planning and try something new together. It was romantic and we also had some great laughs in the process!
What is the most honest thing you can say about love?
We truly believe that love is a choice. It stems from the little moments in the day, subtle touches or words. It grows over time from nurturing it, and from choosing each other every day. Easy days and hard days. Choose each other, respect each other, and, most importantly, remember to laugh together.
