Katie & Logan: Longwood Gardens Engagement

Katie & Logan: Longwood Gardens Engagement

Today we’re taking a garden walk with Katie & Logan, and listening to them talk about how they met, their relationship so far, and what they are looking forward to in married life together. Let’s get started!

How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?
We met playing beach volleyball.
Logan: My first impression of Katie was that she was smart, independent, and beautiful woman. I was excited just to get to go on a date with her. Shortly into the date, I knew how great she was, and I was already trying to figure out how I could see her again.
Katie: My first impression was that he had kind eyes and a heart-warming smile. You get to know a lot about a person when you play a sport with them and I could tell he was highly competitive, yet an encouraging and patient team player.

Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning.
A few months before our wedding, Logan had to spend 8 weeks overseas for work. It was really challenging getting the details taken care of without him. WhatsApp, Trello and Dropbox were lifesavers in keeping our communication flowing and helping to keep track of our tasks, despite the 7 hour time difference and 5,000+ miles of separation.

Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day?
All four of Katie’s nieces will all participate in the wedding as flower girls or speakers. As a tribute to our home states of PA and KY, we will serve Yingling and Yard’s during the reception and our signature drink is a Bourbon old fashioned.

What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you?
Katie: Our first look and saying our vows.
Logan: Obviously getting to marry my wife 🙂 Otherwise, it would be the dancing at the reception.

What is the best thing you’ve learned from one another?
Katie: Logan taught me not to take myself so seriously, and only worried about things that I can control.
Logan: There are a lot of things I’ve learned from Katie. I’ve learned how important thank you cards are, how to meal prep, and that site seeing can be fun, especially if you have a camera. Most importantly, I’ve learned how much one person can mean to another.

What is your favorite thing about each other?
Katie: Logan is an incredibly hard worker. Whether it is volleyball, work, starting a podcast, or learning how to play the banjo, he always gives 110% effort. He is also super dedicated and loyal to his friends and family. He makes it a priority to call people on the phone just to catch up and let people know he appreciates having them in his life.
Logan: My favorite thing about Katie is that she will go above and beyond for the people she loves. She’s driven in her work-life, but she really enjoys making the people that mean the most to her smile. I will
always love that about her.

What was your favorite part about planning your wedding?
The overall excitement that builds as you get to have a hand in crafting every aspect of your wedding day!

If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?
Katie: don’t try to control the other person, give them the freedom to be themselves
Logan: Talk. Talk about things, its way better to be open about things that are bothering you, that you are happy about, that you are nervous about. At the end of the day, the best thing you can do is talk to the one you love. One of the great things about talking to your partner is that they will be able to understand without having to explain the entire backstory.

What is the most honest thing you can say about love?
Love starts with yourself. If you don’t love yourself, there is no way
you can love someone else.
