Kate & Silas’ Laurel Wedding – A Family...

Kate & Silas’ Laurel Wedding – A Family Legacy Woven Through Generations

Some wedding days feel less like a single moment and more like a continuation of something that began long before. For Kate and Silas, their wedding in Laurel, Mississippi was exactly that—a celebration rooted in family, legacy, and the kind of love that carries through generations.

Held between a meaningful church ceremony and a reception at Kate’s childhood home, the day was filled with moments that felt both sacred and deeply personal. But perhaps the most unforgettable detail was Kate’s dress—a stunning gown originally worn by her grandmother decades earlier, lovingly preserved and brought back to life as a surprise. The moment her grandmother realized what Kate was wearing was nothing short of unforgettable.

From heirloom rings passed down through generations to a ceremony officiated by Silas’s father, every part of the day reflected a deep reverence for marriage, family, and faith. It wasn’t just a wedding—it was a living, breathing legacy.

“It wasn’t just a wedding—it was a legacy carried forward, one generation to the next.”

How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?

The two met as students at Mississippi State University, living in the same apartment complex—Kate quite literally living right above Silas. Their first interaction came when her apartment flooded his, prompting an unexpected introduction.

While Silas immediately thought she was “the most beautiful girl he had ever seen,” Kate wasn’t quite convinced at first—especially after a long day of pickleball. Still, what began as a slightly chaotic first meeting turned into something lasting, and now it’s a story they laugh about often.

Tell us a funny story relating to your wedding day or relationship!

In their early days as neighbors, Silas would throw things at Kate’s window—from golf balls to a frat cooler—to get her attention. Meanwhile, they shared a wall, which led to late-night music battles and early-morning vacuum revenge.

Their playful dynamic has been part of their relationship from the start—and fittingly, one of their first wedding gifts was a vacuum from one of his old roommates. A full-circle moment, honestly.

Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning.

One of the biggest challenges they faced was long distance. While planning their wedding, the two were living 17 hours apart—Kate in Dallas and Silas in Cape Canaveral working night shifts.

With opposite schedules and a wedding planned in Laurel, Mississippi, it required intention, patience, and commitment. But through it all, it only strengthened their relationship and deepened their connection.

Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day?

Nearly every part of their day was rooted in family. Kate wore her grandmother’s wedding dress, originally worn in 1961, and surprised her with the reveal on the wedding day.

She also honored her late grandfather by using his wedding band as Silas’s ring, keeping the original engraving intact. The ceremony took place at a church deeply connected to her grandparents, and was officiated by Silas’s father—who shared their story and faith in a deeply emotional ceremony.

The reception was held at Kate’s childhood home, built by her father, where family and friends gathered in a space filled with memories. Even their family dog, Paco, made an appearance—tuxedo and all.

What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you?

The intimacy of it all.

Having their reception at Kate’s childhood home surrounded by close family and lifelong friends created an atmosphere that felt less like an event and more like a deeply personal celebration. Seeing people from every season of their lives come together in one meaningful place made the day unforgettable.
