Coastal Chic at Chatham Bars Inn

Coastal Chic at Chatham Bars Inn

“A timeless New England wedding infused with modern seaside charm”

An airy, modern celebration by the sea, Maddy and Ben’s wedding captured the timeless elegance of New England with a fresh, coastal twist. Set at the picturesque Chatham Bars Inn, their day blended crisp blue-and-white tones with soft gold, peach, and cream — the perfect palette for a Cape Cod spring.

Following a heartfelt church ceremony downtown, guests gathered beneath a clear-top tent overlooking the ocean. Every detail, from the sculptural florals by Beach Plum Floral to the monogrammed bar and sweeping sailcloth accents, was thoughtfully designed to complement the coastal surroundings while maintaining a sense of elevated sophistication.

The couple’s day was filled with deeply personal touches — handwritten thank-you cards as escort notes, ice cream sandwiches from their favorite Chatham creamery, and the joyful sounds of loved ones singing along as they danced their first dance to “I Love You Always Forever.”

“The sun was shining through the roof, we were surrounded by everyone we love, and everyone was singing along to the chorus. It was really special.”

How did you two meet?
We met at an underground party in May 2020 — the height of COVID — and somehow found each other amidst the chaos. It definitely didn’t seem like a situation where you’d meet your future spouse, but after chatting and laughing through the night, we both left feeling something special.

Tell us a funny story from your wedding day!
Our officiant forgot our last name! During the ceremony, everything was going perfectly until he announced, “I now present you Mr. and Mrs…” — and then completely blanked. Ben had to whisper, “Slingerland!” The entire church erupted in laughter.

What part of your wedding day was most important to you?
Our first dance. The sun was shining through the tent roof, everyone was on the dance floor singing along, and for a few minutes, time stood still. It was pure joy.

What’s the best thing you’ve learned from one another?
We’ve learned to embrace change and lean on each other through it. In the year we married, Ben changed jobs, we moved, got pregnant, and welcomed our son on our one-year anniversary. We’ve learned that the chaos can be beautiful when you’re in it together.

What was your favorite part of wedding planning?
We loved weaving personal touches into the day — a hand-drawn illustration of our family boat on the invitations, handwritten escort cards thanking guests, and a candy bar featuring our favorite Cape treats. Every detail felt meaningful.

If you had one piece of advice for other couples…
Stay together throughout the night. It’s easy to get pulled in different directions, but being intentional about staying close made the night feel even more special — we experienced every moment side by side.
