Charleston has a certain, classic beauty about it — there’s something about the dripping Spanish moss cast against the romance of an old plantation house that awakens the soul. And yet, despite the formidable beauty of so splendid a sight, Drew & Charlotte’s lovely love is all we seem to see!
A word from photographer Justin Brown of The Happy Bloom:
“Charleston is known for its beautiful coast, historic architecture and tiny cobblestone streets. Charlotte and Drew chose to take advantage of the Eastern coast by getting ready on the water — the morning breeze was a welcome addition to a very warm July day. The two held a private first look at Magnolia Plantation beneath the sweeping oak trees where they were greeted by the first wedding guests of the day — their two pups, Beau and Jackson. The two (along with their wedding party) then made their way to historic downtown for more portraits with antebellum architecture at their back and cobblestone underneath their feet.”
Love notes from the couple, Drew & Charlotte:
Tell us about your wedding!
“The rich history of First Baptist Church, the open, rustic atmosphere of the Cedar Room, and the majestic grace of the massive oaks at Magnolia Plantation all created the most stunning and southernly elegant backdrop for our wedding festivities. As many of our guest had never visited Charleston before, we also strove to incorporate some recognizable elements of the city into various aspects of the weekend. For instance, we served classic southern staples like fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese, chose beers from local breweries, included several iconic beach music numbers in our playlist, and, of course, made sure our guests felt surrounded with Charleston’s famous southern hospitality.”
What was your vision for your wedding day?
“Our initial wedding vision never centered around the design, but instead we always pictured being surrounded by family and friends having a truly good time. We also knew we wanted to incorporate unique little tidbits here and there that had personal meaning to our relationship and showcased our personality as a couple, such as the glass-encased rose from Beauty & the Beast, using bookcases for glassware behind the bar as a nod to our days spent in the law school library, and the fun idea to offer signature shotslater in the night instead of the usual signature drinks.
For the colors, we both adored the idea of navy blue tuxedos, and I had always loved the look of dusty rose or blush bridesmaid gowns. When we put the two together, we realized we had a winning combination. From there, we felt touches gold added a classy, polished pop, and neutral accents of ivory and champagne tied our color palette together wonderfully.”
Who are those adorable, furry sidekicks?
“Jackson is an 8-year-old Morkie (Maltese-Yorkie mix), who is the quintessential lap dog. Beau is a 3-year-old Goldendoodle who has the ability to make anyone smile with his goofy antics. They could not be more different of dogs, and yet they make quite an inseparable pair! They are loving their new backyard and seem just as excited as we are to officially be a family.”
What is the moment you remember most about your wedding day?
“The moment we remember the most from our wedding was when we turned around as Pastor Marshall declared us husband and wife and saw all the excited smiles and heard the elated cheers of our family and friends. That is a moment that will live with us forever, and we feel incredibly blessed to have been surrounded by so many supportive loved ones on the most important days of our lives.”
What’s next for you two?
“We have now settled in Charlotte, NC, where I have started a job with Deloitte. Drew will finish his last semester of law school at the University of South Carolina in the fall (he graduated with his IMBA in May), and at long last our years of collecting advanced degrees will finally be over. We look forward to starting a family one day, but for now we are just enjoying being newlyweds and hope to get to see some exciting places across the globe.”
