Brendan & Johanna’s Wedding

Brendan & Johanna’s Wedding

Brendan & Johanna’s wedding was a beautiful day with heirloom details, simple elements and a romantic feel! Their color palette was a blend of black, white and taupe, keeping the overall design elevated and classic!

Brendan and Johanna’s engagement story was not just memorable, but awe-inspiring as Brendan got down on one knee with Johanna’s great-great grandmother’s wedding ring. This timeless vintage family heirloom has been in her family for over 100 years. It seems only fitting that their vision for their wedding day was timeless and classic.

The couple went with the charming Walnut Grove as their venue which is nestled in a beautiful valley in Moorpark, California. Featuring 50-year-old walnut trees and towering eucalyptus trees, this rustic venue sits on 120 acres of a real working farm.

Although Walnut Grove is the perfect setting for that charming rustic vibe, Johanna and Brendan approached this venue with a modern twist in mind. They went with a classic black, white, and taupe color scheme; elegant white florals that included playa blanca roses, lisianthus, and baby’s breath all of which transformed this venue into a romantic day filled with timeless and simple details.

Johanna dazzled in her strapless, A-line satin Maggie Sottero wedding dress featuring a dramatic cathedral-length veil, and Brendan paired her perfectly in a timeless, black Vera Wang Tux making the pair a vision of elegance and sophistication for their wedding day. -Vivian Morrow Photography How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another? We met working at a local fish house. We both had other partners at the time but developed a friendship. I (Johanna) left the restaurant to start teaching and a year later we “re-met” at a friends birthday party and the rest is history! Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning. I (Johanna) am very much type A and had a hard time going with the flow. Brendan is very much go with the flow and had a hard time understanding why I was so worried about everything going perfectly. We learned a lot about how we balance each other out during wedding planning. Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day? The ring that Brendan proposed with is my (Johanna) great, great, great grandma’s wedding ring and is 100+ years old. I used to admire it on my grandmas finger when she wore it and was thrilled to find out that it would be passed down to me. It’s such a special feeling to have a connection to my late grandmother on my finger every day. What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you? The most important part of our day was spending time with our guests. We tried our best to take photos before the ceremony and while guests were eating so we could personally thank each and every guest for being there and celebrating our love. What is your favorite thing about each other? Brendan is the funniest person I know! He can always make me laugh and bring light to situations that feel heavy.
Johanna is generous and kind. She is always willing to go above and beyond for the people that she cares about. What was your favorite part about planning your wedding? Creating a day that was truly a reflection of both of us. The simple, romantic, and traditional touches were all me (Johanna) and the fun, lighthearted, and exciting touches were all Brendan. If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be? Make time to be intentionally present during your day because it will fly by.Photographer: Vivian Morrow Photography
