A Parkside Civil Service

from the photographer: “It’s a heartwarming day when family members travelled across the country to celebrate the union of Zhi and Nabil. The lovebirds got to know each other through work and have recently relocated to Singapore for work. They tied the knot with an intimate civil ceremony just before Christmas and will be having their wedding celebrations later this year!

When I first asked Zhi over our first conversations what are the key moments that she’d like to treasure, her response was family, genuine emotions and outdoor spaces. Braving the drizzle, we’re able to have a few minutes of bridal portraits at the historical Fort Canning Park to celebrate the couple’s love for each other and the outdoors!

This hands on bride made most of the planning herself and we’re absolutely in love with the modern pearls and line details that she picked out for her dress. Her customized lego ring box makes the cutest keepsake!”

How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?

As management consultants working within the same Consulting Management, we found ourselves assigned to the same client project, albeit in different workstreams. It was during this collaboration that our professional relationship evolved into something more, and we began dating after the project concluded.

Reflecting on our initial impressions of each other, I recall being struck by my husband’s cool demeanor and confident presence. His composed demeanor left a lasting impression on me and piqued my interest from the start.

Conversely, my wife’s down-to-earth nature immediately caught my attention. Her approachability and grounded demeanor made her stand out, and I found myself drawn to her warmth and authenticity.

Despite our distinct roles within the project, our shared experiences and interactions laid the foundation for a deeper connection. As management consultants navigating the complexities of our work, we discovered common ground and forged a bond that transcended our professional endeavors.

Tell us a funny story relating to your wedding day or relationship!

Traveling together has always been a cherished part of our relationship.

During our trip to Shanghai, amidst the hustle and bustle of exploring the city, there came a moment when I found myself shivering in the evening chill after forgetting to bring my jacket. Without a word, I glanced at my fiancé, silently pleading for warmth. In a heartbeat, he understood my unspoken request and gallantly draped his jacket over my shoulders, enveloping me in his warmth and care.

Another memorable adventure took us to Portugal for our friend’s wedding in Monsaraz. Excited to explore the country, we embarked on a road trip from Porto, only to realize later that we had entered the wrong destination due to a simple typo. Despite the unexpected detour and additional hours added to our journey, we laughed off the mishap and embraced the opportunity to enjoy the scenic route, turning what could have been a setback into an unforgettable adventure filled with laughter and shared memories.

Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning.

Despite our contrasting personalities—one introverted and the other extroverted—we have found a harmonious balance that brings us together. While we may inhabit different worlds at times, we always manage to meet in the middle.

Like many couples, communication has been a hurdle in our relationship. However, we have learned that open and honest communication is the key to overcoming this challenge. By sharing our thoughts, feelings, and perspectives openly, we have been able to bridge the gap between our differing personalities and strengthen our connection.

Through mutual respect, understanding, and a willingness to listen, we have cultivated a relationship built on mutual trust and empathy. Despite our differences, we continue to navigate life’s ups and downs together, finding common ground and deepening our bond with each passing day.

Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day?

We made the decision to host our luncheon celebration with our closest family and friends at Little Farm on the Hill. In contrast to traditional weddings with banquet-style seating, we opted for a simpler and more intimate gathering. Our aim was to create a warm and cozy atmosphere surrounded by the people we love and cherish dearly.

At Little Farm on the Hill, amidst the picturesque surroundings, we shared heartfelt moments and created lasting memories with our nearest and dearest. The intimate setting allowed for meaningful conversations, laughter, and shared joy as we celebrated the start of our journey together.

Surrounded by the love and support of our cherished guests, we felt truly blessed to begin this new chapter in our lives. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments that we will cherish for a lifetime.

What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you?

Deliberately selecting a venue outside the city, nestled in the countryside, was a conscious choice to embrace tranquility and peacefulness. Surrounded by the serene beauty of nature, we found solace and serenity, creating a truly memorable and intimate atmosphere for our special day.

To witness our guests’ happiness, brimming with laughter, and to be enveloped by the love of those closest to us was truly heartwarming. Opting for a plain and simple wedding allowed for more space for meaningful moments, enabling us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience alongside our beloved guests and engage in authentic conversations with them.

What is the best thing you’ve learned from one another?

In our journey together, we’ve learned the importance of patience, especially when faced with challenges or unexpected circumstances. Understanding that each of us has our own strengths and weaknesses has allowed us to complement each other and grow together as a couple. We embrace the idea that together, we are complete, and we encourage each other to embrace growth and change, knowing that it strengthens our bond and enriches our relationship.

What is your favorite thing about each other?

Her smile and laughter illuminate my world, bringing joy and warmth to even the darkest of days.

He is my unwavering pillar of support, always by my side to offer comfort, guidance, and protection. With him, I feel safe and cherished, knowing that his love is a steadfast anchor in my life.

What was your favorite part about planning your wedding?

Attending the weddings of our friends provided us with invaluable insights into what works and what doesn’t when it comes to planning our own special day. From scouting the perfect pre-wedding venue to selecting the ideal flowers and their colors, choosing the right photographer, and meticulously coordinating our attire for both the pre-wedding festivities and the wedding itself, every detail mattered.

Seeing all these elements come together seamlessly filled us with immense satisfaction, knowing that we had put thought and care into every aspect of our celebration. Our experiences at our friends’ weddings not only inspired us but also guided us in creating a day that truly reflected our love and commitment to each other.

If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be?

Relationships endure not solely because of the good times, but because they weather the storms with love and care, emerging stronger and more resilient. It’s in the moments of difficulty and challenge that true bonds are tested and ultimately strengthened, fueled by compassion, understanding, and unwavering support.

It’s the little things in life that we cherish the most, for they hold the essence of joy and meaning.

What is the most honest thing you can say about love?

Love is the ultimate conqueror, capable of overcoming any obstacle in its path.

No relationship is immune to imperfection; conflicts are inevitable. However, what truly matters is the willingness to address these challenges with open hearts and minds, striving for resolution and understanding. It’s the commitment to finding common ground and working through differences that strengthens the bond between partners, fostering a relationship built on mutual respect, trust, and resilience.
