Incorporating sentimental touches that celebrate family and marriage can truly make the event unforgettable. This charming and intimate wedding takes place on the grandparents’ picturesque property, filled with love, laughter, and numerous nods to the strong bonds of family.
A sweet and sentimental wedding on grandparents’ property with lots of nods to family and marriage, like a framed wedding photo wall of all the married guests in attendance. All the bride’s siblings were teary-eyed during the father/daughter dance, including her two brothers. Just a very sweet, wholesome family affair! How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another? Ellie’s Aunt Ginia had a plan ever since Dylan’s mom and step-father built the home next door. Ginia started casually bringing up to Ellie “The cute neighbor boys” and bragging to Dylan about her “Gorgeous nieces”. The two of us finally met mid August of 2020 and after just minutes of chatting the ball was off and running. After a 1:30am game of 3 on 3 basketball, Dylan walked Ellie to her car. She tried to give back the long sleeve shirt she had borrowed to stay warm, Dylan refused because that shirt was his excuse to get to see Ellie again. It worked, and the shirt has been with Ellie ever since as a symbolic reason to always have an excuse to come see her again. Tell us a funny story relating to your wedding day or relationship! Dylan, as true with most grooms, struggled to find the balance between being helpful and present during the planning of the wedding, while trying to delicately express truly not caring what color the napkins were. So he came up with an idea to kick the fun off at the wedding. He carefully formulated specific trivia questions for each table with all answers relating to the lives of wedding guests. After buying the liquor store out of mini fireball whisky shooters, he handed it over to Ellie to perfectly present the questions and instructions to each table. The winner of each question got to pick a person at the table to give the shot too, and the party had officially begun. Describe a hurdle you had to overcome in your relationship or during your wedding planning. In May of 2021 Ellies Dad was in a serious plane accident and suffered several physical injuries and a traumatic brain injury which lead to 8 months in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities across the country. As he slowly made his way out of his coma, he had to learn how to walk, talk and do everything again. As her Dad battled everyday, the already tight knit family grew closer and closer. A bi product of this closeness accelerated Dylan’s relationships with everyone. Ellie’s Dad’s hard work was paying huge dividends and allowed Dylan to finally be able to sit with him and his wife in a hospital halfway across the country to ask for Ellie’s hand in marriage. Although the journey was certainly tough, the family is blessed to announce the miracle that is his miraculous recovery back to his routine life. What part of your wedding day was/is most important to you? For us, we really wanted to give our guests an experience that made them feel appreciated. That played a role into just about everything. We made sure to be very intentional with our decor, our seating arrangements and all of the amenities that we had available. What is the best thing you’ve learned from one another? We’ve learned the importance of patience during all times, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for one another. Through facing obstacles together, we’ve embraced grit, recognizing the strength and resilience it takes to overcome challenges life may throw your way. But all in all we have come to understand that the supportive network of family and friends who provide love, guidance, and encouragement is truly invaluable. Any special ways you incorporated your family or family history into your wedding day? We really wanted to emphasize the importance of what a marriage means to us, and what better way than to display all the great examples of “I do’s” from all the guests from our wedding. We collected all the wedding photos from all of our married guests, framed them, and hung them up on a wall for everyone to see, but kept it a secret until our big day. This task deemed to be a little more work than what we initially intended, but witnessing everyones reaction to seeing their own wedding pictures on display was well worth all the time collecting photos! What is your favorite thing about each other? Since we first began dating, Dylan would leave me little notes written on yellow paper. Some were short and funny, others were lengthy and sincere, but it became such a habit that he even wrote his vows on that same yellow paper. I have kept every single one of those notes and I cherish them more than anyone will ever know.
My favorite part about Ellie is the comfort and trust I have in her in every aspect of our lives. It has never been a question about wanting to spend forever with her. She checks every box, and it makes putting in the extra effort so easy because I feel indebted to her for how she makes me feel. If you had one piece of advice for other couples, what would it be? Live presently. Humans tend to chase the next stage of life, but I encourage couples new and old to stop spending their time waiting for the next chapter of life or their relationships, and enjoy and cherish the stage that you are in. What is the most honest thing you can say about love? When it is true, it doesn’t waver, it just grows. One of Dylan’s yellow notes read “I love you more than yesterday” and that has turned out to be very true. Planning: Bridal Bliss
