Chinoiserie Wedding Editorial

This Chinoiserie wedding editorial is a celebration of cultures, styles, and love stories. It’s a testament to the beauty that blooms when different inspirations converge in perfect unison. Enjoy the beautiful imagery below created to captivate and inspire!

The inspiration of this Chinoiserie wedding editorial stemmed from the freshness of Spring, an admiration for European architecture, and subtle nods to Oriental design. The York Room at Hawksworth Restaurant in Vancouver BC perfectly encapsulated the European aesthetic desired, with its grand crystal chandeliers, tall windows, and elegant carved etchings on the walls and ceilings. To infuse Oriental motifs into the design, the creative team incorporated a floral-shaped arch backdrop, bamboo accents, Chinese parasols, and delicate blue and white vases, along with a beautiful poem scroll to narrate the love story amidst the chinoiserie details. The color palette consisted of shades of greens (sage and emerald), ivory, white, and blue, harmonizing seamlessly with the chosen venue and design elements.

A real couple was selected for this editorial. With the bride being of European and Chinese descent, the chinoiserie theme resonated perfectly, celebrating both her cultural heritage and the elegant ambiance we sought to create.

The focal point of the wedding attire was the stunning La Premiere White Collection gown named Leta, adorned with a sweetheart strapless neckline corset bodice and A-line silhouette embellished with 3D leaf and floral appliques. Sourced from Novelle Bridal in Vancouver BC, this gown exuded elegance and grace, further enhanced by the addition of removable off-shoulder lantern sleeves adorned with delicate flowers, along with a complementary veil. To balance the look of the delicately designed wedding gown, the bride’s hair, expertly styled by hair and makeup artist Jeis, was kept simple with gorgeously curled locks flowing down from the crown of her head. Her makeup was kept fresh and not too heavy, enhancing her natural beauty without overpowering the ensemble. As a finishing touch, she adorned dangling ornate white floral motif earrings to complement the intricate details of the dress.

The vision for the florals was to infuse oriental elements and delicate whimsical shapes throughout the design. Lulu from Luminous Florals curated a breathtaking array of ferns, white roses, orchids, bamboo, silk lanterns, ground moss and parasols, artfully arranged into the arch/altar design for the ceremony. The focal point being the arch design, the team opted to use clear princess acrylic chairs shaped reminiscent of grand chateau settings. The existing European architecture, windows, and lighting of the York Room seamlessly integrated into our design concept. The bridal bouquet was kept light and fresh, featuring strips of bamboo bent to create a unique shape, adding a touch of originality.

For the sweetheart table, classic blue chinoiserie bud vase arrangements were incorporated, complementing the overall aesthetic. The design gracefully boasts subtle Asian patterns and shapes through bamboo accents, linen patterns, and calligraphy painted on a long scroll that takes after a Chinese scroll. Gold vintage cutlery and ornate charger plates added a touch of opulence, while carefully selected plateware complemented the overall aesthetic. The handwritten scroll surrounded by vases and flowers serves as a captivating centerpiece on the table. The gold ornate charger plates paired and layered with uniquely designed chinaware seamlessly blended the European with the Oriental, as well as the blue delphinium accents throughout the floral arrangements.

To achieve the desired look, texture and layers play a crucial role in adding depth and dimension. Incorporating a variety of vases and candle votives in different sizes, heights, and shapes adds visual interest, while wispy florals and light greens balance the ornate details and gold accents. The European architecture of the venue, along with Chinese elements sprinkled and blended throughout elegantly. -Vivian Ng Photography
