A beautiful proposal at Cape Cod at sunset! Read below to see how the story unfolded …
from the photographer: “Joe reached out to me to capture his surprise proposal to Jenna at sunset on Cape Cod. We lucked out with the most gorgeous July sunset and continued their session at Menauhant Beach in Falmouth, MA. Once they finished up with me they facetimed all their friends and then went off to a restaurant in Woods Hole to celebrate (where their parents were waiting to surprise Jenna at dinner).”
How did you two meet? What were your first impressions of one another?
We met in high school! We were both 16 and had been friends prior to dating, but hadn’t really talked one on one until we had a history class together (that’s where it all started). Our first date was on Valentine’s Day at a restaurant in the mall in our town. We had hung out before this, but this was the first date!
Jenna- My first impression of Joe was that he was extremely kind and friendly to everyone around him, but also to me. He was very persistent in getting my attention and letting me know he cared about me and was interested in me and spending time together. I also noticed how good looking he was after a summer haircut, lol!
Joe- I remember my first impression of Jenna being that she was beyond cute and definitely much smarter than me as we really got to know each other in one of our high school classes. I was a little nervous about asking if she was single, but I couldn’t be any happier I got over those nerves.
Tell us a funny story relating to your relationship!
We love to go on adventures together and travel/ try new things. We also have a good time together in terms of we don’t take life too seriously and make each other laugh a lot. We did a big trip through France last spring and stopped in many amazing locations, tried awesome food and did a ton of excursions. One particular night we decided to splurge on a Michelin star experience and really were quite shocked at the food and atmosphere. While it was super upscale, we had been out wine tasting all day so we definitely didn’t fit in with the clientele. Then, they started bringing out the most insane dishes and every time the waiter would leave we’d just look at each other and crack up. For example, we actually tried oyster ice cream – it was gross and Jenna made Joe eat hers because we felt bad leaving it. Overall we’ll never forget that experience as it was a mix of bizarre, funny, some great food and a memory for the books.
What is the best thing you’ve learned from one another?
Jenna- How to look at life with a glass half-full mentality. I often go into situations already assessing all the negatives, the cons and the potential issues. Joe has taught me how to live life in the opposite light and take each challenge with a positive approach – be open to all the fun and benefits that life has to offer.
Joe- Similar to some of my other responses, Jenna has taught me how to dream big and think about life as one big adventure. She is always wanting to try new things whether its traveling to a new country or simply taking up a challenging hobby. I am both impressed and inspired by her openness and adventurous attitude.
What is your favorite thing about each other?
Jenna – My favorite qualities about Joe are that he is the most patient and intentional person with everything he does in life and with everyone he talks to. He is the easiest person to get along with and always always has a positive outlook on life. Joe is very go with the flow, but will do whatever it takes to make me and those loves happy. He is encouraging and smart and makes me strive to be more relaxed and positive as I can be a pessimist naturally.
Joe– Jenna is one of the most caring people I know. She is always taking care of those close to her and makes my life easier in more ways than I could imagine. She is also very organized and put together in many facets of life – oftentimes motivating me to improve in that area which sometimes is not my strongest suit! On top of all that, she loves adventure, which is one of my favorite qualities about her. She is always pushing me to try new things, expand my horizons, and is always supportive whenever I get the chance to do something that will help me grow!
What is the most honest thing you can say about love?
Love isn’t just about big gestures, flashy rings, or major milestones like proposals or weddings. It’s really about the quiet moments in between—the small, everyday things that bring happiness and calm. It’s those little acts, like a thoughtful gesture before work, a surprise on the weekend, or an unexpected touch when you least expect it. Love is about feeling just as content whether you’re jumping out of an airplane together or curled up on the couch. No matter what you’re doing, it’s knowing you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, with anyone else.
